Inverted subs

Is this my Brahma?
My friend emailed me some pictures of his custom job.. he's got 3 eclipse titanium subs. Thing is, 2 of the subs are pointed down, and 1 is pointed up. I think it looks darn good, but I'm not sure what this does for the quality(spl?). I'm just curious if it's for aesthetic value, or if it tempers the output of the woofers? I'd put the pics up, but I have no idea how to do that.

Not a thing. Just have to remember to reverse the polarity of the woofer...

There should be no audible differences in this setup, but it sure looks nice.

Not to sound dumb, but you hook the + to -, and likewise? Thought that might fry the sub.. also, what does reversing the polarity do, exactly?

Nothing will fry.. it just operates the subwoofer 180 degrees out of phase, or instead of throwing forward like it usually would, it'll throw backward. You need to do this because of the change in woofer alignment...

yea, many custom jobs are built this way. its good if you need to build a smaller box(althoguh you dont want the sub to hit anything if you put stuff in the trunk)

yeah have you heard of a isobaric enclosure? its when you have one sub in the box and another one directly on top of it so the cones are like () together and have the one outside the box wired in reverse polarity. subs aren't like regular electronics were polarity really matters

Inverted subwoofer installation also leads to a cooler running subwoofer since the sub isn't operating in an already hot environment. The cooling vents on the sub actually get nice cool air instead of the stagnent hot air inside the box. This can also possibly lead to a higher wattage handling capability.
