Intermittent audio

I have a 3 yr. old 125W RMS speaker (ADS component) which frequently drops volume drastically for long periods. I checked speaker wires and connections about 4x with no problems found. I switched L/R speaker wire connections on the amp and still get same problem from same speaker so I know it's not an amp or crossover issue. I drive the speakers fairly good with 150W RMS/channel amp set at very low gain. Could the speaker be damaged? Voice coil be damaged?
