Installing HU in '00 Jeep GC Lmtd

I've tried installing a new head unit in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (w Infinity Gold) and I've run into problems. I screwed up and cut the PCI Bus wire, which shorted some stuff out and cost $900 to replace. I also just had the factory radio put back in because I was sick of dealing with the installation. I'm wondering now if I could install the new HU with no problems. There would be no place to plug the PCI Bus wire from the car into the new HU, so would everything work?

Jeep owners who have a Jeep like mine, with the PCI Bus wire (yellow/violet) please let me know if you installed an aftermarket head unit with no problems, and if so, how did you do it?

even if the wires were completely removed, you could theoretically still install a HU. you would have to run power(constant and switched) and ground, then you could use amps for yours mids and highs and subs or however u wanted to do it

Well is there a way to remove the stock radio and install a HU with no problems in a Jeep, like most other cars? Would it work without having the PCI plugged in?

I've read on wjjeeps.com that Jeep stopped using the PCI bus wire after '01. Its a yellow/violet wire that plugs into the back of the radio seperately from the harness.

If someone with an older Jeep, which had the PCI, installed a head unit; please let me know how it works.

I dont mean to sound condescending at all...but it seems to me that you didnt know exactly what you were doing...why not just take it to a shop to do it? Would have saved you $900...

I've installed many, many, many radios into these Jeeps (and other Chryslers with the same harnesses). Just leave the 2-pin plug with the yellow/violet wire unhooked; use a regular Chrysler harness for the other two plugs and be sure to connect the blue wire in the harness to your head unit's remote turn-on output.

Kae Zoo, with the PCI wire not connected, does everything still work? Like keyless entry, seat position memory, and stuff like that.

And the $900 was because of shorting out some sort of computer system in the door panel. Youre right, i didnt know what I was doing, I figured it would be easy. Just match up wires.

I was using a Scosche Wiring Harness. The first time around, I was having trouble finding constant power. The wire on the harness which claimed to be constant, wasn't; but I think there was a blown fuse. Was that the problem, you think? So I just connect all the same wires from harness to HU including the blue remote turn on and everything should be good? And disconnect the negative battery terminal before I start? And I shouldn't blow any fuses or short anything out.

I take it you have installed head units in the same type of jeep as mine. 1999-2001 Limited. So lets say I install the head unit, just leave the PCI unplugged and alone, the head unit would work, but what about my remote unlock/lock and stuff like that?

Let's cover it all: there is no vehicle system, nothing, not one, that will stop working after properly installing a new CD player. Every other system in the vehicle will work exactly as it did before. If there's anything else in the vehicle you're worried about, just pretend you asked and I said "no problem, it will keep working exactly the same".
