I agree...should trun on/off from HU easy...something is not right with the wiring.sound like turn on lead is connected to constant 12 v wire

the hu DOES NOT TURN OFF THE AMP.ur subs are staying on because your power wire is touching your remote wire near the amp. Duct tape or electrical tape each place where the amp has power/grnd/ remote wire/ +/- u dont need a switch. Your Headunit is a switch for that. And if you do a cleaner install you wont have a problem with ur amp stayin on.
What I get out of this, is that he had the volume turned up, and turned the sub level down. Like I said, when I have my stereo playing, and I turn my sub level down to zero, it still outputs to the sub, just quietly.It isn't loud or anything buy they are still going.
