installing a switch for subs

im looking at the switch i bought and it says earth for one prong, load for another and finally supply. Which is which? im guessing earth is ground but i dont wanna mess anything up. Also do i need connectors on the end of each wires for the prongs or can i just strip the wires and wire it through the holes on the prongs?

ground should be earth or w/e even though never heard tht then the load is the line going to the amps or subs or w/e and the pos goes to batt and yes use connectors bc if not and hte wires touch can screw up alot if u dont have inline fuses

you can also solder your wires to the prongs, but make sure to cover them with heat shrink or liquid electrical tape to make sure nothing grounds out or shorts

by going you went to the battery you meant to the HU right? Because if not then ive been thinking of something completly wrong

lets make this simple, i think everyone here is confused. If all you want to do is to be able to turn off your sub amp, then put a toggle switch inline with your REMOTE wire. I did this in my car and just cut the remote wire and put a toggle switch inline.

I bought the cheap simple silver toggle switch at walmart for like $2.99 and it only has 2 places to attach wires to, and uses little bolts to connect the wires to. easiest possible way to do it and it works perfectly.

exactly and if u want to not turn amp off and keep amp on unless the key is off but want to kill subs then wire a switch inline with the pos wire runing from amp to sub

thats how i did it on mine, really easy

you could do that but a lot of switches can't handle the current from the amp to the sub and could fry the switch. also, ou would have to run your speaker wire from the amp to the switch in the dash and back to the box again.

really, unless your subs are on the same amp as other speakers, there is no reason not to just turn the amp off

The toggle switch he bought has a build in LED. The ground terminal is for the LED, and it draws power from the source (supply).

Supply -- remote wire from head unit.

Earth -- Ground anywhere, closest to where you're mounting the switch is the easiest.

Load -- Wire from the switch to your amp's remote input.

Again -- This is not the solution to your problem, your amp shouldn't be making noises. Double check all your wiring. I'm going to say its a bad ground.

ur subs are staying on because your power wire is touching your remote wire near the amp. Duct tape or electrical tape each place where the amp has power/grnd/ remote wire/ +/- u dont need a switch. Your Headunit is a switch for that. And if you do a cleaner install you wont have a problem with ur amp stayin on.
