Info on Designing Amplifiers

I'm looking into reading about designing/building amplifiers, and I was wondering if anybody knew of any good reading material aimed towards beginners. All info is greatly appreciated.

I went to school for EE for a year and still learned nothing about circuitry other than logic really. All the labs we had were just assemble and plug in, it was pretty lame.

lol i am an EE student for 3 years now and i pretty much have no good knowledge about anything beside mathematics. the only worthwhile thing i did was making a circuit for street lights.
