Infinity Reference included parts

I bought a pair of Infinity Reference 3022cf 3 1/2 inch midrange speakers to replace a couple that had blown on the top of my dash in my Dodge Ram. I opened up the package and it had the speakers, along with 2 resistors I believe. Black cylinder-esque object with wires out of both ends. Anyways, I initially hooked up the speakers without this believed resistor and they were overpowering the rest of my system so I decided I'd wire in the resistor to lessen that effect. The problem is, I can't tell much of a dang difference! I thought most of these little resistors were meant to be a -3db step or something along those lines, but maybe I'm mistaken. If that was the case, they'd be half as loud volume wise as they were without the resistor, correct?

Anyways, I'd love confirmation that they are resistors. Also, how do you wire them in? Does it have to be wired inline to a specific terminal? Positive or negative? Do the resistors have a set drop in db? Or is it a lot less then I am expecting.

Feeling rather retarded right now, so yea, don't rail on me too hard! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

If you could make photo, we could tell you exactly what is that.

That "resistor" was separate of speakers? or it's on speakers ?

Maybe it's used to cut low freq for tweeter (cause it's 2-way speakers), so if that thing cut low freq so it's capacitor, not resistor. And it should be wired parallel on positive wire, as I remember.

It's a cap. You wire it in series with one of the speaker wires (doesn't matter if + or -, but make sure the polarity on the cap matches the way it's wired). It will block lower freqs from the driver and keep it from getting damaged by trying to play freqs that are too low for it. If you read the manual I'm sure it will be addressed there.
