have Inifinity Perfect 12d VQ sub in the sealed 1 cu ft box bolted on underneath the stock sub hole in my GS430 on the rear deck, shooting through to the cabin. I wanted to try this setup for SQ bass instead of facing sub towards the trunk lid on the floor. It is dual voice coil sub. The sub is powered by JL Audio 500/1 amp. The shop I found was a well respected sub that partisipates in Nation SQ championship and won 5th place with their Audio S4 last year. That car sounds amazing, best loud SQ I ever heard. The whole car was done with top of the line Rockford stuff. So I went with them. I bought my own stuff, including wires on Internet and brought it to them to install. They charged me $1200, that included Dynamat on both sides of the rear deck, and all the doors underneath the custom MDF door enclosures they did, custom sub box and AudioControl LC6 unit, I left my stock radio in. The over all sound was good, the setup was very clean. The speakers I thought were too bright and tinny. I used Infinity Kappa 6.5" Comps for front and coax for back doors powered by JL Audio 300/4 amp. The Infinity sub is rated at 400watt RMS, but it breaks up and farts at loud voulmes, I mean I do get bass and it is tight but it breaks up and when I look at the sub moving while it is working, it looks like it moves to much and does not look tight playing but loose and woobly? I could not bring the car back to the shop because I moved to FL from NJ few days after install, and took the car with me. I went to one shop localy in FL, they listened to it and said the sub is bad, the other shop said it might be wired wrong inside the box, and want me to comeback next week for them to look at. It always sounded like that from day one, I thought the sub needed to work in but now I think there is something wrong. The sub was brand new, bought it online. Any idea what to expect or what to check for? If it is the sub, they sell JL Audio there, should I go with 12w3 for replacement? Anyone has any ideas? I saw video's on this forum of people with this sub and it looks like this sub should kick *** and sound load and SQ with SPL not like mine. Also does anyone have this sub? And how did you guys installed it. This sub was reviewed by Car Audio Mag and they loved it. They used 1 cu ft sealed enclosure 50% stuffed, I am note sure what Q Magnet they used, as the sub comes with 2 Q magnets you can use, low or mid Q or no Q depending on the box size and type. As per the manual I used the same box as the Mag with Mid Q. Mag said they put the sub in .7 cu ft box with low Q and it sounded good but better with 1 cu box they later used, they did not say in the article wich Q they used in 1 cu ft box, in .7cu ft box they put mid Q and the sub did not sound as good. So does anyone know what is the perfect set up for this sub and how should it be wired? I see few people on this forum have this sub. I want SQ bass in my car before SPL, that is why I mounted my box this way, free-air correct install would cost my double what I paid. Does any one have free-air sub on the rear deck, maybe I should go with Image Dynamix IDMAX 12" free-air, I saw few video's here and it looks like it would sound great and would have great SQ.. Any help would be welcome

Gains Gains Gains bass boost??. check them. your overexurting (i cant spell //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) he woofer.

no we played with vgains it is not that, it is either the wiring is out of phase or sub is no good or else, does anyone know about wich Q magnet to use for 1 cu ft box and how to wire this sub correctly to the JL 500/1 amp??

u sure? cuz those infinitys dont like power. they kitty kat subs, and the JL amp is a good amp

do you have the manual? i believe the no insert Q is for a 1 cube sealed.

per the manual the 1 cu ft sealed box needs Mid Q insert which I have in there. When I went to the shop 2 days ago, thye said that it is either a bad sub or it is not wired correctly inside the box, out of phase, I will bring it to them on Monday to check it. The sub plays and plays well at mid volumes, but if the song has a lot of mid bass it breaks up and starts farting. The shop said it is definetly not gains, it is the sub itself or wiring, we played around with gains. If I look at the woofer move when it hits, it looks wobbly and loose. Definetly does not hit or handle power 400 rms as the specs say. The sub was reviews by Car Audio Mag and thye said it was a very good SQ sub, very fast responding sub and it hit 124 spl. When they reviewed it they used .7 cu ft box with low Q magnet and they went with 1 cu ft box which they liked the most, but the magazine did not say if they changed the Q magnet to Mid Q per the manual specs, they said when thye used Mid Q with .7 cu ft box the bass was breaking up a bit and they liked Low Q better. Any thoughts?

hmmm air leak?? my sub is making a wierd noise too when it hits hard and low. it has an air leak around the gasket. me too lazy to fix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

err did you check the gains yourself? what volume was the gains set at? cuz you might be turning the volume up too high

no air leaks. we played arround the gains and I also have bass control knob, the sub is just not taking the power, I think it is a bad sub, not wired correct by the shop inside the box and to the amp or I might need to put Low Q magnet and not mid Q I have in there now.

That VQ shouldnt being "breakin up or farting" or anything...I pushed mine with 424W from a GTO 601.1.....Never distorted or anything...2.25 slotted at 28Hz.

(You must like bashing Infinity since you have a problem with Perfect's comps)

hes not bashing anything. hes just wondering why these things are happening, and infinity vq's are notorious for thier being weak.

Yes, unfortunatly I have problems with the infinity car products, love my Infinity IL50's in my home audio though. I turned the gain down when I was in the shop with their tech and he said thesub should not do that, he said the sub is not getting that much power at those volumes to break up like that, he siad it is out of phase or a sub is bad. when I play the sub and look at it, it doesn ot look tight when it moved, but either loose and woobly, when monday they will take the sub out of the box and see whats up, hopefully it is the wiring and I will try to put Low Q magnet instead of Mid Q I have there now as per the manual for 1 cu ft box, thanks for input guys.. I should have just went with Jl 12w3 that I wanted at first, more shops are more familiar with JL stuff then infinity..

i got 2 of those same subs. mine are in seperate box's i dont have my mid q just the low q. and to me it sounded better with out the insert. i had a soundstorm laboratories f2800 1600wattx2 and it took all that power fine but then again it its not a good name brand amp and i did blow it up on a few days. but i really like the subs.
