Infinity Kappa vs. JBL...not another this vs. that thread, right?

WRONG!

Ok, so it has been determined that I can't fit components into the 4x6 speaker location in the dash of my 1990 chevy truck without making adapters for it...so I have made my peace with it.

And I have done some research...

And have decided based on customer reviews that I want to purchase one of the following plate 4x6 speakers:

JBL P6462

JBL P6462 4" x 6" 2-way Power Series Plate Speakers

Infinity Kappa 462.9cfp

Infinity Kappa 462.9cfp 4" x 6" 2-way Kappa Series Plate Speakers

Now I know that 4x6 plates aren't going to give me the same sound as components, but paired with my 10 inch sub, I think it'll be sufficient, as long as it can do mids and highs.

I want to hear from anyone who has heard either one or both of these speakers. Both get good reviews. Help me out.

Thanks

I never heard any of Kappa speakers, but their components have a reputation of sounding harsh at higher frequencies, and these plates look like their speakers were made from the same materials. This could actually work to your advantage if these Infinity speakers are installed off axis. For on-axis, I'd try something else.

If you plan to rely on a subwoofer to fill the mid-bass frequencies, I'd suggest to look for a relatively high fidelity subwoofer with ultra-low inductance. Average car subs, even some really good ones can't play midbass cleanly or loudly. Look at subwoofers like Dayton Reference HO and HF, Peerless XLS/XXLS, JBL WGTI, or something in the same class. Infinity Kappa subs also have somewhat low inductance and tight sound. Low inductance seems key here. Something like 0.5-0.75mH or less per ohm of subwoofers impedance would be great.

PS: didn't notice you already have a sub..

mhhmmm i say jbl its heavier so they might have a bigger magnet just underrated. and the jbl has honeycomb cone so i would possibly believe it might have better sq. but there pretty much the same and pretty close the the same price

I am leaning toward JBL based on the replies. The idea of harsh sounding high freq's isn't appealing...

But Best Buy has the Kappas on sale for 53 bucks. **** car audio for being so complicated...

The best buy here doesn't have anything but 6.5 inch speakers on display, and they don't have JBL 6.5 inch speakers on display. So, no way to listen to them. Tried every car audio shop in town trying to find one that carries em. No luck yet.

I was looking at those JBL plates too. They're just a set of 4" comps in a plate. Which is good. Just limits mounting options. They aren't going to give much mid bass, but I think from 100hz and up they would be great.

Let us know how they work out.
