Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 Rattle

So prob about a year ago i bought a kappa perfect from a guy for 40 bucks in a box he made outta mdf made to infinity specs (i believe the .6 cu), i had it hooked up to a 4 channel pioneer the first time, not much power going to it, then a reference amp, and now i have a Pioneer GM-5100t hooked up to it. Throughout all the time i've had it, its made a rattle during high excursion. Its not like something is wrong with the box, its not pretty, but it is solid as hell, it just sounds liek it rattles when deep bass comes in.

so i guess i was wondering if anyone has had this problem with kappas before, or if its just cause its an old sub and i'm not sure what the dude had it doing before i bought it.

where is the rattle coming from.. try to locate it.. if there is a lot of excess wire inside the box it might vibrate on the bottom of the box making a nasty sound.. find the sound and we can help from there..

sorry for the delay in this, been a couple says since i could get on here. but it seems like its centralized around the cone, like there is too much excursion type deal

but there is a possibility with the wire, although i believe there is cotton or some other kind of insulator inside the box (could that cause a problem? its built to spec before sub displacement which is .6cuft, so would the added insulator add to that?) also, i dont believe he properly sealed it in the box, like with the foam ring that comes in the box when you buy it new.

but i'll try and keep a better tab on this

and i dont believe its clipping, there is no way its getting more than the rated power of 350 watts, and gain is set at the normal on the pioneer amp, and i had that set with the HU settings all the way up (now i have it set lower, but its still not clipping)

It's probably not clipping, nor is it likely that wires are making the noise. I have had 2 kappa perfect 10.1 subs do the exact same thing...the voice coil comes detached from the spider. you can verify this by pressing the cone outward and observing the point of contact between the VC and spider. You will see the VC former move seperately from the spider, or the part of the spider that meets the VC will abruptly pop when pressure is put on the cone, thats why its happens under high excursion . My brother in law also had on that sis the same thing as well, he sucessfully repaired his with silicone. I had my first one replaced undre warranty and the second one is now past the warranty period so I intend to reglue it myself (hopefully without removing the cone). Apparently infinity has a quality issue in respect to their gluing method because I have read about other people having the same issue. Maybe Harmon Intl. should do somethig about this......
