infinity amp trouble

so i installed this kids infinity sub and amp in his jetta just like I did in mine, it worked at first, sounded ok, he calls me the next day, "yo i think i blew the sub"

so i checked it out, its the amp thats the problem, when you turn the ignition, or give any power through the remote turn-on, the protect light turns on, then slowly fades out. does anyone know what this could be? is it blown? fixable? worth it?
