Infiniti M35 Upgrade - Suggestions ?

Any thoughts on how to upgrade my lousy Bose system w/ the 14 speaker upgrade in the 07 M35? It is the worst sounding system I've ever heard in a higher end vehicle. Even my old Toyota Avalon had a better system. I've heard that it is very difficult to upgrade the Bose because of some automatic compensation of the HU or Amplifier (not sure which) for the highs and lows. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

At any rate, I'm not looking to vibrate the mirrors off the thing, but would sure like to have better sounds out of it. First thought is to update the 6 1/2" front and rear speakers, but others have said this can't be done with the existing amplifier and wiring configuration. The amp is in the trunk so should be readily accessible, but again, folks have said it can't be replaced.

My thought is to bypass the the main speaker wires for the 4 main speakers in the front and read doors, leaving everything else the same, get a seperate amp, and put some components in. I think I'll have to do the tweaters also.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Dale

Not sure how new aftermarket stuff will blend with the rest of the stock system though. It is all processed together and engineered to work as one unit. This is exactly the reason why I would never pay for an upgraded stereo in a new car. Sucks, because that is a really nice car and I'm sure the 14 speaker system was packaged with a whole bunch of other stuff you really wanted. I'd try contacting JL Audio, Alpine, RF, and any other mfg that makes a factory interface that allows you to bypass the factory processing. See if any of them have successfully used their products on the Infinitis and how they would recommend you go about upgrading stuff...

JL Audio and Alpine have some offerings that could help your stereo.

You could just add an aftermarket interface for your stock headunit and use your own amps and speakers..

You pretty much have to use the stock HU in the Infinitis. There are modules out there that will allow you to bypass and remove the stock amp. You can't just upgrade the speakers because with the EQing in the stock Bose amp it will sound even worse than it does now. My wife's '07 G35 has the upgraded Bose system and it doesn't sound horrible, but it IS standard "no highs, no lows, must be Bose."

I'd ask on some of the Infiniti forums. While I usually steer away from car sites for audio questions because they are typically rife with morons, they do usually have the best info on specific integration issues. I haven't looked on any of the Infiniti boards personally because it's my wifes car (though it is in my name) and I'm not allowed to touch it. She's happy with the stock system.

Thanks all, good information. I contacted JL Audio and they got right back to me, gave me a phone number, contact, extension and everything. These guys seem to really care. Though I haven't hooked up with him yet, I'm sure planning on it.

I thnk the best thing to do is try to keep the Bose amp for all the other goodies, and bypass speaker outputs to another amp, then on direct...in theory, it should work...
