Increasing Wattage

When do you see an improvement in SPL from increased wattage handling? I realize that when you upgrade, it usually is not on a level playing field, meaing I do not intend to move to a D6 or D9. Right now I'm running a 12" Diamond D3 that has 350 rms @ 2ohms going to it. In the future, I want to run a 12" RD Sonance V.2 rated @ 500 rms or 12" AQ SDC2.5 rated @ 600 rms. Neither will be powered by the same amp. My question at what point to you see an increase, how much more wattage before a difference is noticeable? All things remain the same, ported box, single 4" aeroport @ 35 hz, 2.5 cubes, etc...

If I will not eitherway, what would be the best course? Additional 12? Realistically, 2.5-3.0 is the biggest I can go on size.
