in dash dvd player faceplate removal?

I really want a 2-din dvd in my winter/delivery vehicle (1991 caprice classic) but i want to make sure it stays there. I've heard of people remote mounting their radios i.e. body in the glove box, faceplate in the glasses holder. Anyone heard of this or know of any other way to hide my 1500 dollar investment?

just make the opening larger and move your heat & a/c controls down
