in a ported wall: 4 15" L7s VS. 4 18" FI BL ... who wins!

ive had 10s sealed and ported, 12s sealed, 15s sealed and ported. imo its more about the sub than the box assuming the box is built correctly.

my SQ 10s sounded better than anything because they are SQ. my rockford 12s sealed still get a little sloppy in a pre fab box. i had a dc lvl 3 15 and fi ssd 15 sealed and ported. they didnt get sloppy, but they dont sound as good as my SQ 10s. it was very noticeable too. but like i said they didnt sound bad or sloppy, just not as good, but they are built to be loud and sound good, not loud and sound excellent

u know ur square subs sound sloppy, so avoid them.

i wanna try the bls to just to try em. to get the best quality sound how do i find out what cubic space to use, they range alot. if i go with the largest possible will that be the loudest? same with port size?

So if they all sound the same and act the same then way dont we all just use 8's and save room?
Because more cone area is the key to loudness. You don't get it. You can make an 18 sound just as crisp and tight as an 8 inch, but regardless of that, the 18 will still get louder on same power as an 8.

1. Output potential2. Low-end extension

3. Bigger subs = mas poosay

It's icy as fawk so I know I'm not working tomorrow...been looking for a house to buy as well, so that's kept me up.

But you're right, I don't sleep much. Maybe 4-5 hours a night. I'll go to bed now(which I am) and wake up at nine or ten.

same here, but already bought a new house last year...we are up planning a trip to Disneyland. Well i'm not planning anything, the wife is and I get to stay up and listen to all her ideas on how to spend my money.

Sorry for the hi jack op...

OP- Almost anyone will tell you that the L7 will get very very loud, but not very musical in most cases. There are many sub woofer options out there that will let you get plenty loud and stay musical. Just need to know a few things...

1. Do you really want a wall or half wall? They do take a bit of work to install and if you have a shop do it you will be broke after wards.

2. What type of space do you have available for your options?

3. How much power do you want to use.

Be reasonable when setting goals. If your budget will not allow you to buy 4k watt amps then don't think about them. Budget and buy accordingly. Spending wisely and build smarter.

O yes back to the topic
Like mentioned it's the sub in question and the motor it uses that determines how tight it will play. I'll bet my 15's are as tight as your 12's.The 15 you put in your car, what sub was it? Trust me when i tell you the tc lms 5400 is tighter than some 8's i've heard.
