Importance of install vs parts

hey everyone... I have a friend that has some really nice car audio equipment... He's got a Zapco 9.0 amp for his JL 13W7, a Sinfoni Amp for his Focal Utopia Fronts....

Ive had several discussions about his system with him, in regards to the installation... The door speakers are in the factory tweeter, and mid location, the sub is in the back in the JL Manufactured box, the amps are laying wherever they fit.

I dont want to bash him or anything, but I just want him to know the importance of the installation in the whole scheme of things.

Basically, What I want people to talk about here is thier thoughts on having HIGH end audio equipment in not so ideal installation locations/methods...

So in other words, if you have the high end equipement, and its just thrown in your car, is it worth the money to pay for the higher end equipment?

Thanks!

Complete waste.

Absolutely not.

High end equipment in a low end install = low end stereo.

What's that ramos used to say.... 90% install, 5% equipment 5% beer.

The installation and tuning has a greater impact on the sound of the stereo than any other aspect..including the equipment used. Put good equipment in a mediocre install, and the final sound will be mediocre.

Put "average" equipment in an excellent installation, and chances are very high you'll obtain better sound than having high end equipment in a poor install.

Little story...

One time there was a man named Joe. Joe was very knowledgeable about car audio, and has had the ability to experience many different brands and models of equipment. Through this knowledge and experience he has came to the conclusion that he really does not enjoy the sound of speaker XYZ. Heard many of them, never liked a one of them. Professes his distaste for the speakers to everyone he meets, and claims they are the worst speakers he's heard. Knows he will never like them, and that any stereo that uses them will inherently sound subpar.

So, Joe's hanging out at a car show one day, and strikes up conversation with a friendly you gentleman from out of town. This friendly young gentleman asks Joe to listen to his stereo. Joe agrees, and they head for the car. The car owner doesn't tell Joe what equipment is used in the vehicle.....but during the demo Joe is very impressed with the sound of the stereo, and begins giving the owner very high praises for the sound and performance of the stereo.

After the demo session, Joe just has to ask the owner about the speakers that were used in his car. Joe was so impressed, he just has to investigate them further. What speakers were they? Well, speakers XYZ ofcourse. The speakers that Joe thought he could never and would never like.

Moral of the story children ?

Had a very knowledgable buddy on sounddomain. he was an older man with a family and liked Brahmas, but Eclipse Ti's better. He had tried a XXX and disliked the way it sounded, and told everyone, in a mture, adult manner of course. Anywho, his name was Joe.

Moral of the story would be something I have been preaching for years my brother. Best equipment in the world in a sub par install will get owned ( in you younguns words //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ) by lesser equipment in a proper installation. Seen it many times. I don't care what kind of equipment someone uses, proper installation is a must. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
