I have an unmodded ma audio hk4k with a 2ohm ratin from manufacturer. I have been told several time they will run at 1ohm with the right electical. Ok, I have 2 200amp alts bout charging at 14.4 on 3 batteries 2 yellow tops opti and one yellow walmart special. Is this not suffencient?

My prob is...... I have 4 re sxx 12s wired to 1.3ohm(idk how, it just is) and my amp would go into protect on slap bass but play long notes just fine. Now it stops sound it may still be hittin protect but light not showin protect(light blown?) It is old.

I ran a clamp test with my mmats d100hc and got a 2.2ohm load after box rise(1386rms). Is the box rise a fairly consistant load with any amp? And why wouldnt the ma run after box rise impedence? or did I damage the amp?

Thanks for any help u can offer. I am no newbie to car audio but sorta a rookie to the actual technical side of things.

It wont protect if something goes wrong, that amp is known for catching fire. I would never design a build about what rise you might get cause you never know what it will be and its changing all the time. Thats just my 2 cents

If they are unmodded they will hit protect for voltage normally. However, just because you are not sure it it is modded or not does not mean it was not. The pallet of HK4KD's we had were fully modded by The Anaba Group (owner of MA). We also took one HK4KD in on trade from a local client that bought theirs from a dealer 200 miles away, and it was modded. When we called to see if they did it, they said it was a basic order with a 3rd party wholesaler and that was just how it came.

So in short, don't trust that it actually has any protection circuitry. If you are dead set on using this amp and such a demanding load, then I would ditch your batteries and pick up better batteries for the application. I would also be sure you have some sort of volt gauge mounted up front to keep an eye on to insure you won't have an issue.

Impedence rise varies with frequency. Some frequencies make it drop. It DOES NOT just rise. It can get as low as 1/4 of nominal at certain frequencies. You should never wire below rated for daily. People on here like to say you can and this amp can handle it etc, but they don't know what they are talking about. They have been lucky so far, and will not get on here and post after their amp blows. Don't trust forum circle jerkers. Trust your amp's ratings.

Ok thanks guys. I do have an external digi volt meter and did see it fall to the mid 12s on occasion, never ran it there for long tho. I am not dead set on the ma because the mmats does just fine for dailly wit subs right behind the head rest in a window blow through. my main concern was if I had damaged the Ma amp. I dont have any way to test at 2ohms either as nobody around me could handle that kinda power to test it. Ever heard of a resistane dist block for testing? I swear I saw somethin like the on ***tube with a fella testin orion beast(2250) and a 97.3. If im correct are they Expensive?

Also thanks for the info. I will be openin the amp to clean and dust and just to see the guts.lol I will look for the resistors that are usually clipped to do the mods. I read a tutorial thread here about the mod, I mean im no pro but I should be able to spot the mod correct?
