well, it just goes to show you that you cant judge a speaker by its reputation.

some people are colorblind and see differently than other people. some people hear differently than other people, this seems to be the case and point.

and notwithstanding the fact that he has most likely heard many more speakers installed and had critical listening experiences with them as well.

i personally have owned a pair of CX62 drivers for the past 7 years and i think they are great. i will not try and elaborate on all kinds of mumbo jumbo - i do not like their high frequency response over 2k really, but i had them crossed way lower.

listening to stuff is the only way to judge it correctly, but then again - i doubt you are going to be able to drive any reasonable distance to listen to a component set of tympany illuminator drivers.

it just goes to show, sometimes you have to put your money on the table and make a gamble because us mortals do not have time time to drive hundreds of miles to listen to some speakers for a few minutes.

just buy whatever looks like a better deal to you. i would get 6.5s if i were you.

I am not even going to try and list the speakers I have installed and heard (I don't have all day) no use in arguing this point I am sure he has heard a bunch just as i have, from rainbow to cdt all the way down to rsd's.

My friend and i just got into an argument about why the Image Dynamics Q1200.1 was a $1000.00 Amp. I said their was no way it would sound better than my Arc Audio KS1000.1 but he thinks it will so I ordered an ID Q1200.1. It will be here Monday and I am going to test this.

Just as with the above I have done this same thing with way to many Comps to list. I think if you get hundreds of people saying that this speaker is GREAT....and then one person out of the blue comes up and says mhhhh...I thought it sucked ***......you will be quick to think he never heard it or he didn't install it right. So think what you will, it takes a lot to impress me and the Image Dynamics brand has done just that.

Edit..I forgot to say I have a pair of Polk Audio SR 6.5's and the ID CXS is cheaper and I like the ID's better.

Wow. This pretty much has me in a nutshell... I'm colorblind, I don't want to drive hundreds of miles to listen to a set of speakers for 4 minutes and 19 seconds, I'm willing to take a little bit of a gamble, I want the best deal I can get, and I'm strongly considering 6.5"s.

FWIW, I'm not a car audio guy. 99.9% of my experience lies with state of the art home audio. That's my point of reference. I'm willing to bet that I listen for and prioritize different attributes than what you're used to.

I bought the IDs, paid for them with my own money, and installed them into a familiar listening environment. The rest of the system consisted of a Nak CD400, Xtant P500 PEQ, Xtant X603, and an IDQ12V2. The IDQ worked out well.

why dont you guys lay off the dude? the ****ing guy heard some ID comps and thinks they **** balls, so what? is it so unbelievable that to his ears they ****? move on people.
you guys are saying the id comps are so good and then compare them to kicker or mb quart. this dude obviously messes around with more sq oriented speaker like seas, vifa, shit that isnt mainstream unless its happens to be rebadged.
Yuh World Finals World Champion cars all use that stuff, every kicker, jl, and mb quart system is junk my bad..we should take away their championships and I need to get my ears checked:laugh:

Hey ejschultz, if you can upgrade your doors to a 6.5 you will be much happier with the midbass on the ID>

You say you don't want to drive really far just to listen to a set of speakers!

To me thats the best way to judge for yourself whats sounds good to your ears, verse listen to so many different opinions.

If you are looking into the new Alpine -x comps i would at least listen to them before buying.

The older Alpine-x comps where made buy scanspeak & vifa, which are/where really nice.

Im not sure who makes there newer ones, plus i think they have 2 different models out.

I think the the tweeter can get loud, the tweeter sounds more of like the boston pro to me at least.

The lower mid is nice , it can get low, but upper midranrge is kind of harsh when crack them up.

if you decide not to do a rear fill, that will give you more money to add deadener, yes deadener isnt cheap.

Since you are doing a 2way set up, you want to just seal the your doors, add dyna-xorb behind the speaker to help with reflextions.

built your own speaker mount out of MDF.

If you go to homedepot go to the back of the store to where they cut the wood, you can find a scrap bend that has cut up boards from MDF,to birch wood.

I think they sell pieces for like .51-$1.61.

anyways good luck

Why, it has to be the install. Car audio is just too complicated for mere mortals. Otherwise, how could a discerning listener with a couple of decades of exposure to state of the art sound possibly determine that an overhyped speaker with quality pretensions sounds like undiluted doo-doo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Guys, we all have varied reference points, and clearly we listen for different sonic determinate. It's foolish to assume that one's (sonic) outlook can be equally prorated onto others, especially when it's greatly limited in its scope.

I vote for you using your ears. Good luck.
I have been around some blocks myself and I`m not a young kid, you are entitled to your opion just like everyone else ,but here is thepoint there are more who have heard the ID`s and agree that they are a very nice sounding speakers, and you are one person who disagrees, kinda like a fly in the ontiment you know, just admitt it and let it go youDONT LIKE IDs I`m ok with that but don`t try to discourage others from buying them, you inall your experience still don`t know it all I may be wrong but yousound like sour grapes.

Next time, I'll be sure to consult you before posting.

Hey, Sherlock. You've figured me out. This must explain why I had an IDQ12V2 in my car for years. Clearly, due to my dislike of ID, I spent my own money on the speakers, too. What a brilliant deductive process! I don't know why it's so difficult to accept that folks may base their idea of goodness on criteria that extends a bit further than tonal balance and frequency response.

Edit: Your comical approach piqued my curiosity, so I just took a quick look at your past threads. It's brutally obvious that you know nothing about audio and that you couldn't recognize good sound if it bit you in the ***. Given the scope of your argument that boils down to, "Everybody else likes them, why don't you," it's easy to see how a simple mind can be led astray.

i can tell you out of my limited experience with components. My ID OEM 6.5 and ID XS-28 tweets are by far the best sounding components i have tried to date. Given i am running them active with using just 70wrms for each speaker right now. I drive roughly 130mi a day....45mins in the morning to work and 45mins back in the evening. I am now curious to see how a set of ID horns and a more efficient midbass would sound from ID.

use your head and your eyes. when i see these dudes saying the ID's are SOOOO great, they rate them next to some $60 kicker coaxials...

lets not play stupid here.
