JL seems a bit too proud of their subs for me to have ever considered them. W7s and W6s are nice, but unacceptably spendy. Most people would be hard pressed to tell a sound difference between a W6 and a RE SE/x without looking. The SE/xs are far cheaper.

He runs W6's? Or did you want to get into a debate about amp 'X' vs. amp 'Y'? You're not talking about Scott Buwalda, are you?
Is he perhaps sponsored by JL? Maybe he can afford any amps he wanted, but is required to run JL. Ever consider that? I sat in or looked at just about every single SQ car at USACi finals. And I didn't see a single stitch of JL anywhere. I know people VERY serious about SQ and JL is minor league to these people.

My point was that JL isn't the best SQ woofer. It's FAR from a good SPL woofer. And it's less than passable for a daily groundpounder. So... who buys them? People who don't know any better. The uninformed. The masses.

IMO JL is way over priced for what you get. There are a bunch of subs i have used that sound just as good for a fraction of the price......you are just paying for the name. I have been to a bunch of shows with people running JL stuff and they werent really noticed by anyone.

People go to shows for the SPL not the SQ. Thats why they dont get noticed, unless your looking for clean installs.

At any rate... if he's that high up on the SQ food chain, he probably gets consideration from someone.

JL set the benchmark a long ass time ago. And they're still fantastic. There's better, but it's a name people know and respect. I rememeber when CAmag listed JL's as the best 10" sub in the world. People couldn't shell out their money fast enough. They've done really well for themselves.

Honestly, I think it's more of a "sour grapes" thing with most people who complain about JL. It's either they can't afford it or it's a rage against "mainstream" gear thing that some forum goers get stuck in their head.

JL just doesn't have enough ouput for me so I don't care for them. I've heard lesser priced subs sound just as good too so that's not an argument. And the thiing is... if you're serious about SQ, what's another couple hundred for what most would consider a superior sub?

And what about the LMS-R? It's similarly priced to the W6. I don't care enough about JL to know specs off the top of my head, so humor me and tell me what makes the W6 so good.
