ok hers my question i have an power acoustikc gothic ov2-1200 amplifier and was wondering if it would power a 12 inch solobaric L5 or would it be too much power what should i do.??????

but will it sound as good or better than the one 10 inch comp vr i have now its 2 ohms.

i just want some deep hitting bass. thanx for the suggestions.

The L5 should be better then the comp vr. Power Acoustik amps are over rated so you shouldnt have a problem with over-powering that sub. Set your gains properly like Jmac said. If you crank the gains and the bass boost then you will likely run into problems with clipping and could blow your sub.

Here is how to set the gains on your amp:

1. Turn your sub amp's gain all the way down.

2. Turn your head-unit's volume up until you hear distortion coming from your mids and highs.

3. Back down the volume on your head-unit to just before the point of distortion.

4. Now turn the gain on your amp up untill you hear distortion coming from your sub.

sub amp? what all i got is a pioneer head unit and it feed from the back of it to the amp is that setup right

dark, yes you are a bit confused. There are setting on your subwoofer amplifier. One of those knobs is called the gain. The gain instructs your subwoofer amp to be either really sensitive or not to the signal that is coming into it.

Like custom said. Turn that gain all the way down. Then go to your headunit and turn that all the way up until your component speakers start to distort. Then turn it down a bit. Now go to your subwoofer amplifier and turn the gains (with the head unit volume still at that optimum high volume) and turn it up until the sub starts to disort. Then turn it down. Now there will be only a small risk of hurting your speakers. Make sure not to go over that volume on your headunit otherwise you might be having a good little speaker fry in your car.
