i have a 92 acura integra and its got four 2way or 3way (im not sure) speakers in it. I need some base but not sure how much or what to put in it. i just know that it has no base and sounds really bad without it. i'm planning on putting in a sub (or 2) and then a new head unit. any suggestions?

2-ways are coaxiles with a tweeter and woofer, and 3-ways usually consiste of three speackers in one, such as a woofer, tweeter, and midrange.

When it comes to head unites, personally i like Pioneer the best. For me a loadness switch is mandatory since i don't turn the volume way up it helps bust the sound at lower volumes even with amplifires. It really depends on what your looking for in sound. Do you want to set off car alarms when you drive through a neighboorhood, or do you actually "listen" to music: as in sound quality. I like to actually "listen" to music, and one subwoofer will do the job just perfectally if powered and tuned right. Try to give us more detailes.

ps: don't make the mistake i made; i purchased a Cerwin-Vega HED series sub and a basic Keenwood amplifer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I'm sure someone will say something about Elemental Design on this forum; they love those things and so do i.

Base.. What's Base..? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Anywho.. Pioneer and Alpine makes an extreamly nice h/u for a resonable price.. For subs, what size might you be looking for? Anything inparticular - SQ, SPL ? I wouldn't go for anything too big, otherwise you'll be forced to upgrade your electrical.. A nice componet set would do you nicely but you'll more then likely want to put these on an amp too since the h/u amp just doesn't do justice.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sorry bass my bad. ok i see whats goin on with the speakers.... but the subs on the other hand. i was planning on putting a sub behind the back seat. im not sure what SQ or SPL means though. Im going for sound quality mainly. but of course wouldnt mind a pretty loud system. you know, best bang for the buck. probably a price limit would be around $500 or so including the h/u. I'm not really sure how far that will get me. im really new to this stuff. what im lookin for mainly in a head is MP3 format support. Also, would i need an amp to power the sub, or would that depend on the head unit. I'm kinda wantin the ranges to even out. like a lot of base is good in some cases i just dont want it to REALLY overpower the treble. ive just seen that in a friends car.

I have only heard one HU capable of mp3 format, it is made by clarion, I believe it sounds great my friend purchased it online from etronics. it plays Wma's also Clarion CD/MP3/WMA Receiver

it has 2 sets of RCA out puts, the rear set can be switched between Subwoofer output and full range rear output (default is subwoofer, at 120hz i believe) an Auxilary input and Dual zone. it's price is 159.99 plus shipping, there is other models that play mp3's that are cheaper, but this is the only one i have heard, and i believe it's well worth the 159 etronics has it listed has.

As for amplifier and subwoofer, there is a lot of choices, look for an L5 8 inch kicker square, they are BIG bang for the price etronics has it listed at 89.99 02S8L5

it is a dual voice coil subwoofer, if someone has the link to the talked about car that is in the crazy 8 class that hits close to 150 decibals, with 1 8 inch square please post it...althought it may be the L7 8 I am not sure.

However you may want to check other websites as they may be cheaper, etronics is the only site I personally have had experiance with. As for amps, and staying under the $500 range, I am not familiar with amps cheaper than $300...sorry but I can't reccomend something unless I hear it....peace

Edit. Also the 8 inch square you may want atleast 2 cubic feet for the box, and may sound loudest ported, sealed is for more accurate sound. ported really doesnt sound much different, just louder. And if you dont have a credit or debit card, find someone who does that will trust an internet transaction, its well worth the money saved.

check out this amp 02KX400

A friend has the KX1200 model for 2 12 inch sqaures, if you run 1 8 and run both of the coils parrallel that should work great for this mono amplifier (it still uses both left and right channels) it will push 400 watts @ 2 Ohms (Both 4 Ohm coils will draw a 2 Ohm Load when running parrallel)

Parrallel is taking both the positive terminals from the subwoofer and running it to the positive output of the amp, and likewise with the negative terminals.

Again check up on that model amplifier on other sites if it has any interest to you, it is 189.99 on etronics
