I'm building a full scale radio controlled R2D2 from Star Wars. Most builders put in crappy 3.5" speakers and 2x15W amps. They are just looking for cheap sound with no concern for quality. When I ask audio questions on the club board about the only answers I get are negative and no info.
I have a tight space to work with. 17" high cylinder and 15" diameter that I have to put my batteries, speakers, sub and radio controls in.
I've already purchased a 10" PowerBass Shallow Mount sub. I'll be building a custom enclosure for that. I plan on adding 4 speakers for the mids/highs and though I am not limited by a car model for size, I need to fit everything in my droid body.
I REALLY need help choosing a sub $300 amp to run things that fits inside. Smaller is better.
I have a couple questions on speakers, and this is more theory than anything else. I plan on 4 speakers to handle the mids and highs. I want to be able to get some volume, without distortion. What shape speaker produces better volume? Round or Oval?
Also would I be better off to get 2 larger speakers or run with 4 like I planned?
What brands should I look at? (I am NOT looking for the cheapest budget speakers, or paying for a name. I want decent quality and good sound but cant afford to spend $200 per speaker or something.)
