If you have Progressive auto insurance, look here

We just switched to progressive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I thought everyone based how much you pay by your credit score?

Me and my wife got some paperwork in the mail today and started reading it. Basically, it narrows down to someone in Florida is suing Progressive auto insurance because of raising people's rates based in their credit score. My question is this: WTF does credit score got to do with auto insurance?? Nothing. Just to be dicks and make more money.

People with lower credit scores may hvae more risk than those with higher credit scores. Credit scores are also used as screens for employment. People who pay bills on time usually show up to work on time as well.

Exactly. It is a good indicator of how responsible an individual is.
Insurance companies can use an indicators they want for rate adjustments.

Maybe if they didn't charge more for insurance the people with credit problems could pay off some of their credit debt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif lol

Good thing I'm not in debt. If I don't have the money to cover it, I don't charge it;)

Those bastards raised my insurance about $5-10 for 2 consecutive 6 month periods. Considering I should have gotten a discount for not having any claims against it, technically it would be a bigger increase. But then I turned 25 and my insurance dropped by 33%. Plus I pay my insurance premium in full, so I receive a discount that way. I noticed a friend of mine doesn't get that discount if he pays in full, so I'm guessing the discount is given to those with poor credit scores.

Anyhow to make a long story short I called them up and asked them wtf is going on with raising my insurance and they claimed they were raising everyones.

Credit scores have NOTHING to do with auto insurance. Period. They shouldn't even mess with it. Raising the rates just because your credit is ok is illegal.

Not really, I had an 820 credit rating 2.5 years ago and my now exwife got into some "trouble". I traveled a ton for work and she handled paying the bills since i wasn't home except on the weekends. When I went to buy a new car I found my/our credit to be in the dumps 590, late pays, nonpayments, over extending us..... I have spent the past two years and a nasty divorce trying to fix it(back up to 700 and 28k later). I have not called in sick to work or been late for over 3 years. In some cases your credit has nothing to do with the type of person you are, it may have to do with bad circumstances/luck.

And progressive sucks a$$, they dropped me from my renters/auto policy after the hurricane came through S FL last year and I had to file a rather large. I checked all over and Esurance was the cheapest around and didn't check my credit score.....
