i always made sure that i took the day off and made dinner (she was italian and i am greek, so i aways had to make her her favorite suasage rigatoni while i had my greek pastitsio, thank god theyre easy to make), cleaned the apartment, made it smell nice, flowers and candles everywhere, jazz music playing, a good pinot noir or grigio. good pinot noir creates a lasting impression on the palate and in the memory (if shes a wine lover)......and of course a nice gift.
usually jewellery will work...i suggest you talk with a female jeweler..perfume also works. (make sure it is something that is more of a "day-time" perfume to be safe, i fuked up by getting her something too strong once.)
it sounds overwhelmingly cleche`, but it does work....and boy is it a lot of work. after your done, dont forget to take a shower and brush your teeth.. thank god it is only once a year.
