Okay so i have 3 10 inch alpine r types (old school 300rms) in my trans am....the one subs glue on the ring started to come off in which my sub finally became un-usable (may not know what im talking about but lets just say its blown)....anyways my other 2 subs are perfect but the manager at a local car shop says that i cannot just add another sub because it will off-set the others and eventually mess up my amp as well as my subs....is this true?

add a totally different sub altogether? or add another of the same sub?

if they are the same, why would it matter? its not like the three became really good friends over the years, and won't accept another sub to replace their fallen buddy. maybe the dude meant you can't add another new style type r? or he meant, you should buy something from him.

well i didn't know if putting a BRAND new sub in off the exact same as the other 2 would offset something....considering if used the other 2 subs for 2 years and all of a sudden put a a brand new fresh one in?

Even if you put another sub, that is completely different, it woul dbe fine. I hope what he was warning you about was the imp ending up too low. You could add whatever you want. While it may not work well, it would still work as long as the final imp was in an acceptable range for the amplifier.

can you re-phrase that what is an "imp"? so if i get another 300 rms type r and add it it should sound the same as others and be fine?

impedance, resistance, yea. those kinsd.

if you put another sub in - of virtually any kind (with the same voice coil configuration) it would be fine.

if you put a new sub of the same model\brand. it will be fine. it wont be optimal for the first few days because the soft parts of the new sub are going to be more stiff than the other two, but that will even itself out in a few weeks.

tell him he is an idiot. and get a new replacement. you should have re-glued it when it showed signs to begin with.
