if my "BIG" alternator power wire shorts, will my car burn down?

Pretty much what the title says.

I'm pretty sure that no it won't because my car has a 100a alt fuse and since the big alt power cable is within that same circuit I should be fine. Is that correct?

ALso when I upgrade my alternator I will need to upgrade that 100a fuse as well rite? The fuse is located in the fuse box under the hood. do they even make big fuses that will fit into that slot? I'm not sure what type of fuse it is. Car is a toyota corolla

If the wire shorts to ground without a fuse, it'll probably burn your junk down (assuming we're talking decent sized wire, not like 12GA or something). It'll be shorting full battery power, because that's where the other end is connected, not alt output.

Put the fuse close to the battery. As close as you can get it, the shorter the unfused section is, the better.

The fuse on the OE charge wire has no impact on the new charge wire.
