Mixing batts

Quick question. Been doing some research and can not really find a solid answe. Some say yeah real world it's ok and others say absolutley not. Have a 07 trailblazer with a stock ac delco batt under the hood. Buddy at autozone traded me a brand new duralast 95ah agm he bought last night with his employee discount for a Traxxas slash I had. I planned on making that my 2nd batt and keeping stock but is that bad? Should I just throw the agm under the hood till I can save for another agm for the rear? Thanks for any info guys. Just do not want to be cheap now and cost men more in the long run

Some here will will p iss on your parade for doing anything THEY don't like. It's an EGO problem of theirs. Any 12V car batteries should work fine when wired in parallel with each other.

I mean, there are those here to doubt that I have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering too! Which I do.

John u don't know what your talking about. AGM have higher resting voltage. Over time a lead acid battery could bring down a AGM. And I wouldnt mix a brand new batt with an old batt because the old batt could shorten the life spans of the new battery. Just start fresh with two new batts

Yes, the best option is to start with two brand new identical batteries. But any two "12V" batteries would work adequately and with acceptable longevity. All you're really talking about is adding additional voltaic cells to an existing single car battery.

Some people here tend to so apes hit abiout stuff like that like it;s gonna blow up and melt down, which unless one makes incredibly stupid wiring mistakes is NOT gonna happen!

Thanks hertz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and John seriously bro can't take a word you say serious. I dot think anyone Here does.

That's because most here are young whippersnappers that think they know everything! I'm an old guy that knows I know a lot, but not everything. Wisdom normally only gained with vast/years of experience!

It is not great to mix AMG and normal batteries just like it is not recommended to mix older with newer batteries.

The reason was already stated in this thread, the lesser (weaker) battery pulls down the stronger one.

*edit* you are right about Johnny, he is the Village Idiot.

What gets me is the constant spewing of self righteousness and flat out arrogance. Reminds me of that kid at school than n matter how many times you hit him or be mean just keeps wanting to hand around. That or the constant of bringing his own "baby" and "installer guy" which by the way worked out greeeeeeeeeaaaaaaat lmao, into everyone's thread that has nothing to do with it. But yeah went to autozone and got a matching one today. Not xs power or any other big name brand but duralast platnium and now have a total of 155ah which hopefully is enough since I just sold my truck and forgot to pull my singer 240 out of it like a dumbazz because I was in a hurry. Wouldn't have fit but could've put the $ towards a new one for the current ride...thanks to everyone that was actually helpful(hertz and ilikeradios) and John. Just because we're not 50 doesn't mean the guys here don't know there ****. What's sad is your old azz is to dumb to realize that you know very little about everything. Classic keyboard warrior. Google your name and there's a repeating pattern on every gawd **** forum. No one likes you or takes you serious except the People that signed up and it's their 1st or 2nd day here. Some guy by the name of Albert Einstein quoted the definition of insanity as this. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.some by this very definition I personly will consider you insane and would like you to please refrain from posting in any of my future threads.

Is there a ignore list onthis forum? I know my rc one there is. Just curious. Thanks again guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2 batteries in parallel act as one bigger battery. They work as the weaker of the 2. Electricity does not know there are 2 desperate different batteries. But it is true that lead acid run at a lower resting voltage. So in essence you are negating the benefits of the AGM electricity.

Yep, much like (in fact identical to!) having one bad cell in ONE battery!!

And just for those who do not know, what the heck is "AGM electricity"?

John Kuthe...

AGM (absorbed glass mat) is a special design glass mat designed to wick the battery electrolyte between the battery plates. AGM batteries contain only enough liquid to keep the mat wet with the electrolyte and if the battery is broken no free liquid is available to leak out.

^^Straight from google

Yes correct. But to make up for that cell the other battery will compensate. so if you have one battery resting at 12.1 and one resting at 13.4. You will have one battery acting in between. I meant AGM battery but my phone auto corrected. You can tell i was on tapatalk. I wasn't attacking what you say. You can run 2 batteries, they dont have to be the same. It acts as one reserve. But if you have a bad cell in one the other battery will help the other. That is why they invented battery isolators.

I would always buy 2 batteries new. They do not nec have to be identical. But remember your system will be always as good as the weakest battery.

That's what i did.bought one for under the hood today. Have two brand new ones at the moment but was reading that in the trailblazers it's a bad idea to disconnect the battery? Something about the computer having a rough ideal and not resetting? So going to call a buddy tomorrow that owns a mechanic shop and see before I go messing something up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
