If I wire 4 9a31 batts together wouldn't that be 48+ volts? Or am I missing something

How do I run a battery bank? I mean if I connect 4 batteries that would be 48+ volts. How do I keep it around 14. Yes it is a newbie question.

Positive to positive, negative to negative for all the batteries.

If you wired them in series (positive on one to negative on another), then you would get 48 volts.
