IDmax power Q

In a truly Maxed out max
Hey guys I got a dual 2 ohm idmax 12 and I'm running it in a 1.5 cu ft sealed box. Amp wise right now I have a hifonics brutus 1500D. Right now I'm running it at 4 ohms giving about 500wrms (acording to the box specs, never had it benched to see its tru power). Anyway would it be ok to run that sub at 1 ohm with that amp I know its rated for 1500wrms, but do those amps truly push that much power? Or would you suggest I get a new amp.

Thanks,

Pat

Ok, well my gains are set according to JL's tutorial right now, I will have to reset the gains if I switch over to a 1 ohm load. In doing this how shoul I tune it to not get the full power? What I did is just take the sqrt of the resistance times the wrms to get a voltage of about 38.73, so should I still tune it the same way or should I set the gains lower than that.

Sorry if I seem like a newb, but this is only the second system I've installed and done all the work on so I guess I am.

I've ran 1300 Wrms a peice to several IDMAXs, you should have no problems except maybe on the low notes. If you know the limits of your driver and have some common sense, you should be fine running lots of power. If it starts distorting, turn the gain down a tad and don't play it loud as hell for long periods of time...its as simple as that.

one of my boys has a directed 1100d on each of his IDmax's (hes got 3 of them) and they bottom out on some songs (he says its just not enough power) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

what are some other causes of bottomin out?
Too much power. That is the only cause.

Even when playing frequencies well below the tuning of a ported enclosure, the only reason the driver can bottom out because of too much power for the situation. Send the sub little power, and you can play well below the tuning of a ported enclosure.

It's all about the amount of power, plain and simple.
