iDA-X100 cable help

Okay, so I just purchased an Alpine iDA-X100M unit for my '64 Fairlane (I picked the marine version because it matches my interior colors).

I'm getting a custom headliner made and therefor need a much longer USB cable than the one provided with the unit so that I can have my iPod stashed in my glovebox instead of, well... hanging from the ceiling (or something equally aesthetically offensive). I heard that the Alpine KCE-422i cable won't allow the iDA-X100M to display the iPod screen on the head unit- which pretty much defeats much of the purpose of owning one.

Do I simply need to find a longer USB/iPod cable or do I need something more specific?

If you have links, share 'em. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you using the full speed cable or just the usb cable

I guess I'll be using the USB, since the full speed cable apparently doesn't allow the iDA-X100's to use their iPod screen function (at least, so I'm told).

Would it make a noticeable difference either way?

the full speed doesnt allow what now. You want to be able to use your ipods screen instead of the ida?

Truly sorry if I'm being unclear- the iDA unit shows the ipod screen on the iDA's screen and allows you to fully control your ipod via the head unit, and I was told that if you use the KCE-422i high speed cable that you won't be able to see your ipod screen on the iDA.

i have the model previous to the x100 i have the x001 and i have the full speed cable and it shows name of song album and artist. Its true that if you use the usb u get the album art but i think it looks tacky i like it just how it is.

Is album art what you are talking about the picture next to the song when you play one on the ipod... if so then use the usb cable not the full speed
