ID or Dayton

I'm down to either the 10 inch Image Dynamics ID10 V3 D4 or the Dayton RSS265HO-44 for my SQ setup. I'm looking to push around 350-500rms to the sub but yet decide between ported or sealed. Which setup would you do?

Would one 12 ID or Dayton be any better at these power levels?

The Dayton's like small ported boxes like .7cubes a piece where as the I'd would like about double that. The again the Dayton's like small sealed as well were as the I'd like full size. But the down side to this is that Dayton like a little more power that the I'd and since you only have 500w to feed it I would prolly pick the Dayton and put it in a lil bit larger than recommended box.

Reason for:

1. Higher power handling usually leads to longer life of a sub when around rated power

2. The Dayton has a few mm more of linear Xmax which means more air moving

3. Price the Dayton's are usually cheaper

4. Due to the small box requirements I the Daytons you would have the room to double cone area because two can fit in the space of one I'd. This is if u have the proper power of course.

5. It's different not many Daytons in cars out there

6. I'd lost its main designer last year which may or may not be a good thing

Love my ID10 and it's getting around 230-250W on my Eclipse 36501. I'd recommend a sealed box of .75-1cu or a ported box of about 1.3 cubes tuned to 32Hz to get the most out of it.

What are your reasons? I was going back and forth but ended up with the ID because some guy on CL was selling his for 40 bucks.
Wow, nice price. I just feel the Dayton is a slight step up in design, quality and I feel has a little better value overall. Also, it felt a little more substantial in person, and felt the sound is a little more effortless then the ID. Not that you made the wrong choice, just my ears prefer the Dayton and the value factor.

Thanks for the honest opinion, man. I do notice how getting that thwack out of the ID is considerably more difficult that previous subs I've used. Not like I'm complaining since this is geared more towards SQ, but can't say I don't miss being punched around a bit. Have a feeling the Dayton will be one to try out in the future if I get a beefier sub channel.

If you want to go Dayton next time, check a peak at the Titanic.
