ID comps

Yeah.....the CD1e's aren't nearly as efficient as the other horns, which really changes the ball game some.

However, those Ref's are inefficient little beasts. You'll want give them a good bit of juice going to them to keep up with the moderately efficient CD1e's. But why only 7's? Step up, be a man and get some 8's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Also, those crossovers that come with the CD1e's don't actually highpass the horns. Since the horns are piezo drivers, they have a natural lowend rolloff. The crossover only includes an EQ circuit for the horns. Just an FYI.

Yeah...I read about that.

I'm wondering how much of a pain it would be to go active with the horns though....

I was thinking of a 3-way setup, possibly doing the 7" in the doors and maybe the Ref 5" in the kick...

Typically a bad idea to go 3-way without using a very efficient midrange (such as Audax PR170M0, PHL, etc). If you use a "standard" driver, you have to cut back the horns to match efficiency.....which defeats the purpose of horns in the first place and cuts back on their dynamics and such.

Being that the CD1e's aren't as efficient as the higher end horns, it may not be as big of a problem....but those CD1e's are still pretty darn efficient compared to standard drivers.

Well...can ya show me some good woof's to go with for a 2 or 3 way setup?

I'm a n00b when it comes to custom comp setups //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not much pain at all. Honestly, when tuned right, you'll love them. I know I did. I had it mated with the 7" Vifa PL. I loved it so much that I stepped up to the CD3Ultra:yumyum:

just need dual 31band EQs and a good xover.
a 15 band EQ will be sufficient enough //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You'll probably want 31 bands on the higher-end horns, but the cd1e will do well with minimum EQ, unless you have some nasty frequency response.

The CD1e wont be mindblowing efficient off power. That's what the other compression horn does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

7" refs in doors for midbass, and then 6" refs in kickpanels. The 6" ref has a nasty cone breakup so it's usable up to 2.0khz. But since the horns are able to get down lower than that, you'll be fine). 5" mids with horns will lose a lot of dynamics and impact because you'll have to turn down the gain on the horns to comphensate for the lack of volume coming from the 5".

1.2khz seems like a great crossoverpoint for the horns. Preferrably 2nd or 3rd order would be good enough. I know they can get down lower to say about 900hz with the full body, but then you're on the edge of straining them. Not really, but it'll just sound straining. Definitely not pleasent to the ears. That would be like crossing over a conventional tweeter at 900hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Still looking for mid ideas?

Lots of good ones out there......ID CX62, ID IDQ8's (if you can find them), Dayton Ref 7's like you mentioned, Vifa PL's are mentioned here, Seas CA18 or G18, Adire Extremis, AVI's, Beyma's (high efficiency pro-sound drivers basically), etc etc etc.
