Jesus man read the freakin thread.
but Im lazy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Anyways I believe bringing them out closer to the seats would bring the soundstage up more? Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

well meg, i have a similar problem.

but stage is all about perception. so i went around that by cheating (well its cheating to me)

i added a second tweeter set. using the stock tweets in my sails, i hooked them up with only a few watts from like 16k up @ 18db\oct (thank you H701!!!) and it really helps bring things up a few inches. imaging (not including the midbass i need to T\A) is awesome with horns, as long as they are roughly symmetrical to each other placement wise, it will be great. stage width is acceptable, but it usually does not extend further than the rear view mirrors, because of the dispersion characteristics of the horn lens. but stage height has always been an issue for me.

if you can, id suggest adding a second tweet as stealth as possible to raise it up. some big wig audio man guy (like richard clark or some crap) wrote an article about horns and i read this trick years ago. finally implemented it and i like the results with minimal effort because moving my horns is no easy feat!!!

as said, height and my midbass image are my only big problems in my opinion. but i still gotta get some warmer weather so i can clean things back up.

ps,

james, good idea with the strap\bolt on the fire wall!!! i never thought about using the firewall as a mounting point!!! can we say RIVETS!?!? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I use to have a problem with stage height.... before Eric Stevens sat in my car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

He basically play w/ the phase (one whole side is out of phase now) and did he own style of Time Alignment.

What he did w/ the time alignment was:

1. Balanced everything to the left

2. delayed my left mid till the stage was at the highest point on the left.

3. Mirror the delay to the right mid.

4. Balance everything back to the center.

5. delayed the whole left side (horn and mid) until the center imaging was focused.

note: T/A was done after phase.

I tried this with my brother's car. Even though he's not running horns, he likes the sound of this T/A method compared to the common measurement method.

req, are you over lapping the tweets and horns? or did you stop the horns at 16k

also i went with horns to avoid a 4way setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

horns need to be further back to work properly. I see a lot of people who have them forward, and the 2 reasons i see is

1) cant fit them all the way back

2) aesthetically pleasing

Originally horns WERE placed at the front of the dash. Over years of testing/competing/etc several guys at ID decided back against the firewall, and as far to the sides as possible, was the best mounting position. I still remember those guys convincing me years ago that horns sound best when they are buried so far under the dash you have to get on your knees to ever see them. But like you said, many times that's simply not possible without major modifications to the vehicle.

ok i just spent about an hour testing and listening testing and listening testing and listening. i listened to a variety of songs and a pink noise track(which btw yours get fatigued real fast after a while when there is no eq done to horns) . I got it veer left and right but it just wont budge up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

These horns are getting me upset. I have to spend an extra couple hundreds just so i could "cheat" by going 4way.

i dunno man. you might wanna try and angle them like 2 degrees upward. i mean, every install is different. maybe that could be for your benefit...

this is why i popped that tweeter up high. i have not messed with overlapping and xover points yet. right now im using a 6db @ 16k hpf on the cd2 and a 18db @ 16j hpf on the tweet, but that was just to get them playing and not exploding.

when i get off this little out to sea period (24 days starting on the 19th of feb to the 14th of mar) ill play around with it more.

but for now, im waiting on my rims to get in tomorrow!!! i have three of them, but due to "ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS" i have to wait till tomrrow till i can get my last tire\rim. stupid bastard at the shipping place decided he would make a funny joke and split up my wheels to different trucks. the bastard.

Wow that actually doesn't look bad.
what doesnt?

Hmm, so aim them up some?

only way i could do that is lower the horn and raise the lense. this will get in the way of driving :/

only thing i can think of is bringing the whole horn forward to dash edge...
