IB Sub Setup?

The basic principle behind an IB setup is to completely isolate the front of the driver from the rear portion of the driver. It can be extremely difficult to pull this off in many trunk vehicles, let alone an suv. It could theoretically be done in an suv without building a wall, but it would take quite a bit of ingenuity.

3x the vas is the standard, I believe.
I've seen higher too...

In an SUV space is on your side, so I can see it being done. Honestly a MASSIVE sealed enclosure would be getting close. As in a trunk car, that's almost what they are dealing with, as one plane of the box is exposed to the cabin. Though, some people are venting their trunks to obtain true "infinite" baffle.

Should have said 3x and higher...3x is just considered to be the minimum to be considered IB.
Yup. Any thoughts on people claiming 10x Vas is ideal?

Haven't had the room to try, and no one around here is running IB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

10x is huge. For a 18" Fi Q, 3x vas is 16ft^3...that's a big *** sealed box already.

If you're actually building an enclosure that size, you have to ask yourself if the extra weight & reduced visibility is worth lowering the Qtc by a tenth, at best.

The beauty of IB in a trunk (or an attic or unfinished closet at home) is that it integrates into the space very easily, generally.

This. ^ It actually saves space in a trunk, whereas it'd take up space in a SUV.

So if the woofer has a Vas of 36.9 L, I would need a box at least 3.90 ft^3?

That doesn't seem too outrageous, but what are the privileges of running it in this manner?

Because although not a HUGE box, for one 12 sealed, pretty **** big.

I've also heard that making a port so long the back wave is effectively completely attenuated, resulting in an IB-like situation. Any truth to that, or was I lied to?

Help please? Lol

Already gathered plenty of super useful info, just need those last couple things answered! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
