did some tests the other day on my 20.1. used an oscilloscope (nice $4000 one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ) to set the gain on my 20.1 using a 50hz -6db tone. and also used a Snap-On Micro Vat to get voltage and amperage readings. heres the results:

batt. voltage, engine running: 14.01

50hz test tone, voltage drop to 12.22: 132A, with a 146A peak so...

132A x 12.22V = 1613.04 watts 146A x 14V = 2044 watts

next test, try to help the voltage drop a little so we revved to 2k rpm and took the same test

50hz test tone, voltage drop to 12.51: 133A with a 147A peak so...

133A x 12.51V = 1663.83 watts 147A x 14V = 2058

so considering the amp is rated at 1800W @ 13.8 volts, id say about 1663W @ 12.5 volts is pretty **** good. if i had an electrical system to keep up though, as you can see the peak (meaning the very first second i had the highest amp draw with still a 14.01V reading) the amp puts out well over 2000 watts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

all tests were done with stock alternator and electrical system, no capacitors, no nothing. engine running.

sorry i should clarify, yes i know they do get better under lower ohm loads and having an actual decent electrical system to keep up lol. but heres the rest of the info, im running it at 1 ohm. also as you can see i corrected some info in the first thread, so check out my peak readings.

btw, i feel this thread wil give people some ideas on what you can do without having to spend all the money to get a new HO alt and all that.

and that is? lol

That test is ridiculous. You did not do that correctly at all.

1) What load? Impedance rise considered?

2) You measured current DRAW from the amp correct? That is NOT the same thing as output power. Your amp was giving off heat right? That is power loss right there.

Terrible review.

1) read closer...i answered that

2) well no shit! the amp isnt 100% efficient. lets look at the obvious:

wattage=amperage multiplied by voltage. secondly i dont see how running the amp for 5 seconds the first time, then having it shut off, and then ran for 5 more seconds is gonna make anything hot besides your gf.

i dont know if you ever used a micro vat or know what it is, but the numbers are there. now whether you wanna argue that, oh the amps efficiency is 75% so your not seeingthat power. now if you think you can do a better test, maybe bench test it yourself, then more power to ya, other than that, i dont care.

"terrible review" : holy shit this was suppose to be a review????

But what was the actual impedence, DCR not nominal.

Also shouldnt the amperage be lower and voltage higher?

such as 50 volts and 40 amps not 132 and 12

After some searching:

You calculated input but dont have output.
