I work at best buy, and im frustrated.

i loved best buy, it was one of the best places i installed at and i worked for 4 different stores in 3 cities. we did boxes, some glass work, and the pay was pretty **** good compared to other spots.

some of our guys did tint too, but we also had a female manager who got her MECP and put in her work too. she also did tint and built quite a few cars for herself. she was a cool chick. in my time there i worked with 3 former IASCA champs and many installers had 15+ years of experience in/out of best buy.

fyi...i capped out at a tad over $21/hr

15+ years experience doing a deck + 4?
lolz
well, you must read the whole post. we did custom boxes, glass work, doubledin unstalls in vehicles which didn't have DD openings. I mean it was definitely more than HU+4. HU+4 was day to day work, but the BBY i worked at in houston did alot of work on SRT-10's for a local dealership, we worked on high end Benzes, Beamers, and other foreign cars. we had some dipshit installers and salesmen here and there, but when you have a strong crew bringing in good budget numbers even district managers tend to have your back.

the two shops here in san antonio worked on alot of nba players cars because many of our installers left local custom shops to work with us. as a manager i hired plenty of high end installers at very good payrates. if you have ever worked in a custom shop you know that sometimes you can make $50k+ a year, but when you average out what uou make and how much time you spend there...it doesn't look all that great.

on the other hand, you can make a good living at a custom shop by doing basic installs and remote starts. you can make $35-40k on a part time basis because most guys will pass up "basic" work for bigger jobs and their scraps are far better considering you work half the time and enjoy more time at home.

So then you'd admit that that particular Best Buy was not just exceptional in that area, but quite unique throughout the big box industry, right?

4 different stores in 3 cities...not to mention at least 100 other stores nationwide with the same amount of experienced installers and freedom to do their thing in the bay as long as budgets were met.

hell the 4 CC's in our area had some of the best installers in the region heading of their stores at one time. installers who had made a name in custom shops and competed at world finals in the early days. big box stores were just a place to bring their clout to and make a decent salary without all the problems of working extremely long hours at a specialty shop.

Ever hear of Sony Mobile ES? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Using binding posts would be cleaner.

Why did you do that?

You may be surrounded by idiots, but you certainly aren't doing much to separate yourself from them.

I dont like the thought of something being in between my subs and my amp, creating more resistance. And the reason i got in trouble for putting that radio out was because im apparently not supposed to do "tasks" on the weekend, which wasnt told to me until after i did it. Any other day i couldve done it and been fine

You god damn fucking idiot.

This whole thread is a troll thread. It has to be.

You're starting to sound like people who won't let their cables touch the floor, for fear of something happening to the electrons //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So as many of you may know, i work at best buy as a car audio person. Ive always thought i was a pretty knowledgable guy, what do you guys think? Ive recently gotten sort of "replaced" at work by a new guy they hired, because they figure hes more experienced (ive yet to learn about remote starts, thats why) Reason being theres this test i have to take and alot of it deals with remote starts and i cant read up on them or actually get time to study on them. I need an 80 to pass and ive taken it twice and first time i got a 76, second time a 78 (this is with no studying) So new guy comes in, takes it, and gets a 62. But yet he knows more than me about general audio shit?

Also, my privelages to install/ or install new radios on the display have been taken away because i replaced a radio someone sold out of the display one day when i wasnt supposed to, and the manager tells me i dont know a ****ing thing about installing audio, and cant touch shit, yet that was the only mistake ive made the whole time ive been there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif Yet yesterday he does the very same thing and noone says a ******* thing to him? Gotta love favoritism. And to add onto that, my manager is a female. The other day i sold a radio (clearance model out of display wall) to a lady, and i was removing it from the wall, and manager comes over like I TOLD YOU NO TOOLS NO TOUCHING ANYTHING, LET ME DO THIS. So she removes the radio, while i smile and watch. She ended up selling them the radio without the harness, or cage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif And it was returned shortly, the harness and cage were thrown away sometime. Its like noone takes me serious there, and they try to make me feel like im a retard or something. I know im not a pro by any means but i know im accurate in what i tell people, and in the installs i do.

Another thing, this new installer is trying to "teach" me a few things like:

- If you dont have the gain all the way up, you lose output. Always have it all the way up.

- Always wire everything in parallel, all 2 channels are stable bridged to 1 ohm

- Sony makes good equipment

Just a few things, i have more.

I just wanted to vent a little guys. Feel free to add your input on this.
tell them how you feel. its just a job at BB, you plan on quitting anyway.

Because I got a phone call from Discover card before I had given my new home phone number to a single, solitary soul in my new town... even my employer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
No one else could possibly have done it.
Maybe you inherited someone else's phone number.

he doesnt own a computer, or mess with forums or anything. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I wish they would judge install skills by looking at the installs in your personal vehicles. Id pwn all. Just by the amount of time and customization thats gone into my daily driver
And yes, time for a new job. Im waiting it out till the end of march, BB employees get this "blue crew bucks" deal then for having good store profit, which means as soon as i get that 800$ check in my mailbox, im out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

But in the mean time, ive been offering customers my personal install services. Ive already developed a waiting list //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also, forgot, one thing the new guy knows that i dont:

Installing the subs inverted, with no wires inside the box is the best possible way, because you dont have any terminals or anything in between the wire. I then said i just install my subs normal when i build a box, and run the wire directly through a hole, then seal it. Apparently my box building skills are garbage.

One more thing. He has an ext cab S-10. He has an audiobahn flame 15 or osmething inverted in a 10 cube box in the backseat, and the magnet is so strong itll **** the keys outta the ignition switch. Also hes blown his windows out several times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
interesting. Just tell him to show you the ignition keys magnet trick, that would shut him up.

hey DrChronic, lets see pics of your system with
"lots of custom work, etc etc."

Dont feel like getting pics now its too cold but as far as custom shit for the car ive done

5 1/4s in the back (no speakers factory, just some odd holes)

vent in rear deck

5 1/4 comps in the doors (stock was cutouts for 4x6 in dash, filled those)

Stinger voltmeter in dash

USB in dash

Rewired whole car, inside and under hood

Plenty of other stuff, just not really pertaining to audio.

Oh and to the ngas drinkin on dat haterade, i posted this thread to vent, not to deal with your bullshit. Ive got enough on my plate already //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
