Something is wrong with the settings... Gain, filters, something. To much power for the sub in its current box? Alpine does not make a bad amp. They do what they say they do.

I would agree with this, and try a diff box before you give up on Alpine altogether

^This my Alpine MRX-M100 (newer model of the MRP-M1000) was awesome.

The only setting on the amp I think you must have had wrong to make more "Sound quality" would be the Low pass filter being all the way up.
