I want to put a nice system in my 4runner

I am in need of a new system in my 2002 4runner. I'm more into off roading and going on long road trips then trying to blow people out of the water with a huge stereo system. Im not looking for anything crazy and im not planning on running a sub right off the bat and if i do it will be a small one because i do not want to give up cargo space.. I want just good quality sound. I would like to be on the relatively inexpensive side 500+- max.

I was looking at the Pioneer DEH-P4100UB and the Pioneer DEH-P3100UB. What do you think of those? Is there something else you would recomend over these? I dont really need anything fancy but i need the aux for sure which seems to be standard on most HU's these days anyway.

As for speakers. Will the head unit itself be enough to run the speakers? I would rather not run the wires for an amp if i dont have to. Granted its not a big deal I would rather keep the simplicty of not having one.

I was thinking on getting 2 sets of these to go all the way around. They will fit the front no prob and rear just take some modding which is no big deal. Its the e3.65i System from Elemental Designs

So what do you think? Point me in the right direction. Im a complete newb when it coming to car audio. Thanks

Something like this...

Your headunit depends on the features you want as long as you go with a good brand (like pioneer as your looking at) you'll be ok

look on crutchfield for speakers that will fit your openings without modification

find an amp that matchs

and for your bass a 10 in a small sealed box with relativly low power (around 150 watts) should give you the little thump your looking for

the problem with component sets is that you would need to place your tweeters somewhere and you can get by with having your doorspeakers running of the headunit and for the sub a small amp with maybe 8 gauge wire wont be hard to install plus its still very simple to do

Really just depends waht you want.

A set of coaxials off the headunit won't be horrible, but i'd never do it.

Just do things at least decent the first time. Get a cheap set of comps (PG RSD's, Cadence CWM6 come to mine) and a speaker amp used off of hear that'll do about 100x2 @4 ohms. No need for rear speakers. That'll probably cost you about 150$ or so if you're lucky.

Then for a sub....good budget subs include Alpine Type R's, RE SE's, and Fi SSD's. Those are what I usually recommend for 100-200$. Get a nice 500-800 watt monoblock, and you're good to go. That should stay pretty close to your budget.

I wasnt planning on running a sub. I would assume the 6.5 mid would suffice for the bass for me. And the tweakers have their own stock position at the top of the door i was going to put them in. Do i need a amp to run the 4 6.5 mids?

Basically all i want to be able to do is turn it relatively loud, have no distortion or cacking. Im not looking for something that hits hard. Just something relyable and sounds good. Do i need a amp for that or will the HU be just fine? If i need a amp so be it i will put one in. I want to keep this as simple as possible. Do you guys not like Elemental design speakers? What other ones would you suggest? I will be installing everything myself, and modifying anything that needs to be modified.

An amp would be the best way to go. Once you get some good comps and an amp that should last you for many years (hopefully).

Not sure too many people have heard those ED's.

Plenty of good recommendations here for those comps.

OTOH you can get whatever you want that fits your budget.

Let us know what you decide on.

well with those speaker, My buddy has them in a HT set and they are amazing. im at ~$450. Im not the type of person to get the cheap stuff but I dont want to drop a fortune What can you suggest for an amp to power the 4 comp's with the option for a sub if i want one in the future.
