I want to buy a sports bike soon...inform me

You're 22...you're a big boy. 600cc is a good starting point for a sports bike. After a while you can step up to a 1000cc+ bike if you want. Personally I dont see a reason to. I loved the Yamaha R6 I rode for a few years.
Personally I wouldnt buy an older sports bike...2000 is about as old as I would go. You should be able to find a decent low mileage 2003-2005 600cc bike in your area for $4k
x2. nobody really even needs anything more than a 600 crotch rocket, unless theyre into racing and that kind of shit. but for just riding around, a 600 (r6, cbr600, gsxr600 or zx6r) is MORE than enough power to pull you and maybe a nice looking girl around, and even scare the shit out of her just to get her to grip harder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif lol

I think the 600cc would be too much for me, Im almost 23 and I just dont want to have that kind of power...id kill myself.

Buy a moped then...Honestly, 250cc is worthless, 500cc there isnt many good options, 600cc is well balanced on power and agility/nimbleness, 1000cc is just haul ***.

thanks and fixed

It's not but for sure as a younger guy you'll be wanting to upgrade too soon.
having a bike that is reliable, and gets excellent gas milage and cheap are all in my category. Dying is not....lol. I want to start small here and I have been reading that is a perfect starter bike.

Kawasaki Ninja 250r

This is considered the be all end all of beginner bikes. It's reliable, not over powerful, cheap even brand new ($3400), and the new 2008 model looks sexy. It is a great bike to learn on, and even being a 250cc, it will still go 0-60 in 5 seconds, which is faster than all but maybe 5% of the cars on the road. It's not a great bike for doing lots of highway mileage, but it does get good gas mileage and dirt cheap insurance. It's also very light. If you're looking to just get a learner's bike to sell after a year or two, this is your best bet, as resale for these things is amazing. You won't lose much money at all on this purchase, unlike the other bikes posted if you were to buy them new.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

At 6'2" 160lbs the 250r ninja I had would have troubles getting into traffic and not to mention that it was far to small for me and made any ride more than 30-40miles uncomfortable.

You do know that the driver is the one that determines how fast the bike will go? It's having that extra power in reserve that you are scared about.

Sounds like your mind is made up on the 250r...why are you asking opinions?
