dude get real. man i am a co owner of an car audio store. i have a 03 ford expodition with 4 15" kicker l7 2004 model, 3 kicker kx 2500 amps, pioneer deh-8600 head unit, pioneer 6x8 4 way door speakers, 4 optima bateries just for system not counting car batery, everything is dynamated, and i can not stand it with the system up. i push on average 164 spls. the highest i ever ran was 165.7 i got my system for spl use and plus im a big fan of kicker and i am co owner for audio shop ao i get alot of my car audio cheaper. i have busted draver side window so i got my side windows replaced with 3/4 lanzx. i promis u if u set in a car with that much bass with the system up u will not be able to breath. for real. if u whant unbareable bass then im a big fan of memphis, kicker, and jl audio.
list of best bass subs:

kicker: 18" solo-x

memphis: 15" m3mojo

jl audio: 13.5" w7

if u get a set of any of these and put the proper wattage to any of these then u will be blown away. get the amp in between rms and peak. ( Ex. if a kicker l7 15 the peak is 2000 watts and the rms is 1000 then get a 1500 watt amp for it to be safe. you can get a 2000 for it but if played for long time at high bass then the voice coil will burn up and u be shit out of luck. make sure the amp u buy u go by the rms power never the peak. and pionner makes bout the best head unit. get u a deh-7600 or higher to be the safeist.

maybye i should start a new thread about the horns, i forgot that this started on an icredibly stupid note.

but anyway, how low do those horns go? are midbasses a necesceity when getting them, and why is an eq necessary?

They also need to be EQ'ed most of the time, which is another expense/barrier to somebody that doesn't know what they're doing.
oh and i dont know waht im doing, should i just give up the whole idea, and stick with regular comps?

it seems like they might not be too much more $ than regular speaks, cause iff you get the horns for 150, and a crossover and a midbass for another 150 then thats 300 bucks, and alot of comps cost more than that, and from what i understad, these would sound better

Depending on what horns you go with, they will go down to anywhere from 1200hz to 650hz. So yes, midbass are needed.

An EQ is necessary because horns don't have very flat response straight outta the box. It's just a function of their design. They tend to be pretty harsh.

ouch!! 500 bucks!!!, thats for another time cant even afford a hunk of mdf to build my box right now, if i ever find a breifcase full of 100 bills, 5 of them will surely go to those.
but you have mb quart speakers which ill bet you have over 250 in and those horns will out perform all your mids and highs. i look at it like this, a standard person goes out and buys 400 on mids and highs front and rear (rear fill is a waste only reason sales people say get them is because they make more money lol (i used to be a sales person)) all you need is a 2 channel amp for mids and highs so that saves you what another 75? you design to function not function to design.

yeah i got a good deal on those speaks tough, and i kinda like rear fill, just gives me a ltille more ya'know, but like i said if i ever have the time and money ill give em a shot, installation is what worries e the most

no it doesnt only reason you think it does is because something else is out of wack. sound waves cancel eachother out very easily and you cant tune a system without propper material. meaning you cant tune a system using madonna or creed. you must see how it stages before you do anything else. if you have all of your speakers wired + to + - to - i will bet you have a fight going on in the front as well as the back. people often under estimate the power of clarity but trust me i been there done that and i had 1 car with rear fill try stageing 27 speakers in an escort..i had 8 speakers of rear fill not including subs that was a bonnefied mother f'er to set up and it sounded louder AND CLEARER when i uhooked the rear fill ppi 4200 amp that powered those. another example is my old car its a show car again with a much different show system in it it has 5 8" memphis multi syncs in it. the lft rt and center has a mc-500 bridged to each one then right in front of a wall of 8 12's is 2 more running off a stereo mc-500 amp (memphis amps) . the guy who owns it was tunning it with pop music to where he thought it sounded awesome. (he had the fronts and the backs almost playing equal lololol) i brought my iasca disc over and tuned it (he still has my disc) but that thing was HORRIBLE i ended up almost turning the rears almost off then eqed it. guess what? it sounded 100 times better louder and clearer. u would be suprised about how low you actually have to turn your system up to hear it when its done right. things wont cancel eachother out (oh btw he had the left front tweeter and the center mid bass wired polarity correct but due to their locations to the listeners they were no longer in phase so we flipped them -/+ +/-) and i wish i had anyone of you people who swear by rear fill to be there when i did it i would bet you almost anything you would forget about anything fancy about rear fill. wanna do a little test? drop rocks in mud puddles at the same time when the rocks are a 2 feet apart and tell me what the waves do then take the same 2 rocks in one hand and drop them in at the same time....i think the ones apart working AGAINST eachother will colide and cancel eachother out while making not so "good" waves where they meet and the 2 rocks put together will make bigger waves that dont fight and stretch out alot farther in the pool. same thing happens with sound. when the fronts are working good TOGETHER (unless its a rag top car or a weird van) the fronts will make their own natural rear fill.
