So, I made my own box, and all the numbers work, but this isn't about the numbers or the box.

In my folly, after I finished the box, I wired the subs and screwed them in...

This was a few months ago.

I was cleaning my room a bit and I found this:

[i have 2-10" and they came with them]

Am I supposed to put these on the lining of the hole for the sub to seal it off?

I don't know what this is, and I'm actually scared. XD

EDIT:: the right one's middle's missing 'cause I thought it wasn't for anything and I put it on my monitor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Oh, and it's squishy kinda, if that helps?

Alright. Thanks for the replies. I think they're leaking, I'm not sure.

They keep rattling the screws loose, so I think I'm gunna put it on just incase.

I've tightened the screws like once a month since I've put them in.

Haha, Id love to see what your set-up looks like if this is the case...

It's nothing strong, seriously.

It's just that the screws I put in are extremely poor quality [i know, I know.] They were supposed to be temporary. But, it's been 2 or 3 months now.

BBut since the screws are poor quality, I can't screw them too tight due to stripage and the fear that the head'll break. I'm gunna go out sometime this week and get some really good quality ones.

I typically use # 8 coarse thread drywall screws for driver installation. Then in the case I have to pull the driver out I use #10 drywall screws as I put it back in. Using a #8 in the same hole twice usually strips out, but the #10 has a larger diameter so it will hold tight.

As far as the gasket tape goes I always use it. You won't always "hear" an air leak, but you can see the effects if you look at an impedance curve of the driver in the enclosure. The slightest leaks can drastically change the Q of the enclosure and you really lose a lot of output. This is MUCH more significant in a vented enclosure than in a sealed enclosure. Sealed as the enclosure leaks the Q drops. In a vented enclosure as you have a leak the magnitude of the lower impedance peak goes way down and you are losing a lot of output because of it. Vented enclosures in reality have much more internal box pressure than sealed enclosures.
