I repaired my first amp :-)

Yesterday i got bored and started to repair some amps i had laying around that were broken. I hooked all of them up on the test bench and started troubleshooting. 1st amp i tested was an audiobahn 2ch, it wouldnt do anything at all and i couldnt see anything wrong with it, so i decided to just keep that one for parts.

2nd one was a kicker ix252 2 channel. It powered up but went into protect, i took it apart and found a burnt resistor and a spot where one had came unsoldered. I resoldered one and attempted to put a new resistor in but i burnt my hand on the soldering iron so i threw the amp on the ground and stomped it. 150w Piece of shit.

3rd amp i tested was a dhd 2 channel, picked it up from a coworker for like 5$ a while back and thought it was blown because itd work half the time and make weird *** noises. I took it apart to find a loose resistor and the rca connection was broken as well, so i fixed those 2 things and it works great, so im proud of myself for that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I also have a guy bringing me a messed up power acoustik bamf series 5500 so im gonna try to fix that as well. Ill poast pics of it when i get it.

It was my first time dick. Im used to fixing engines and whatnot. I wish i hadnt thrown the kicker amp though, wouldve worked well on a set of tweeters or something not needing alot of power. Learning experience

First time doing what? Using a soldering iron? Not sure I would really consider than a "repair" all you did was fix 2 solder joints man...You have a 33% success rate...don't quit your day job //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yea first time using a soldering iron or trying to repair anything electronic, other than gaming controllers or computers. Never had to do any soldering before though. But either way i fixed it, because it didnt work before and now it does. I feel accomplished that i could take the whole amp apart, resolder those parts, and put it back together and have it actually work, not often do i try something new and have it work out the first time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

the resistors that are larger than 1/4 watt tend to get very hot and discolor the board. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif jot that down. and fets typically can do it too.

Kinda reckless to have no experience soldering anything and attempt to fix an amp man...I guess it was only 5$ so it wouldn't have mattered if you ****ed it up, but that kicker amp was a waste...

congrats?

Yea i did a little reading on amp repair before but im gonna do alot of research before i mess with anything else that way i can actually fix it the right way. Is there a site or forum you guys go to for amp repair and stuff like that?

Yea, but i got the other 2 amps for free so no biggie. Youre right about the kicker, but anger gets the best of people sometimes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

might better take some electrical engineering to figure out how stuff works together and learn how voltages and amperages change as it goes through a component of a certain size/rating i half assed my last two simesters of college in electrical engineering and i still learned alot.
