Hello everyone this is my first post, and really dont know anything about car audio at all, I currently own a 6 channel JL450 amp and JL 1000/1, Two MB quarts and two focal kevlars component sets in the front with a kenwood fold out deck, and 1 12'' JL dub7, i had a local outfitter install all this stuff it was pieces and he put all together, (this was 5-6 years ago) in ten minutes the dub 7 blew, and fast forward maybe two or three ago my system pretty much crapped out, i went to car toys they said i need to buy an electronic cross over(lanzar) so i did, went back and they said it was going to be 400 to install and then they told me both the mids are blown, which would explain why its so annoying to listen to, my question is with all my stuff so old is it worth it to keep it or buy all new stuff, so far i like the kenwood KDC-BT952HD for a deck, but speakers everyones opinion is different i want clear sound with nice bass im thinking $150-300 ive looked at everything but ive bad reviews on everything lol so (Imagine Dynamic, JBL, Infinity, focal, not sure which will treat the best, i think my amps should work but honestly i dont know, and i was told kicker subs are cheap and efficient(also just read about square subs bad or good? i heard good just want to be sure)to fix the dub7 would be 350 for repair and 50 shipping, what i need to know is how did a dub7 blow so fast? the amps? MB quarts or what? like i said i dont know anything about anything, i think im going to pull everything out and reinstall myself. any help hints or ideas would be greatly appericated, thanks everyone sorry if i sound slow and or stupid. im also sure some one some where have answered these questions so sorry for that to.

If the sub blew that quick the gain must of been set too high, or the sub was defective from the start, or when they installed it they messed something up. I recently bought a brand new jl12w7 for $550 so keep that in mind. 400$ to repair the sub seems expensive. You could get a similar sub for the same price or less.

I have a set of those imagine components and they sound good. I would chose one of the hybrid audio lines of speakers over the other ones you listed.

And it kinda sounds like wherever you have been getting stuff installed, kinda sux. You shouldn't "need" a electronic cross over to keep your system functioning properly, ive never had one. tho i plan to get one in the near future.

I would recommend staying away from Car Toys here in the PDX area. All they seem to care about is getting a customer out the door with a bunch of unnecessary stuff and emptying wallets. And, they have the highest shop rates in the area. There are several other high quality shops that are better to deal with.

That sounds right, the place i got it installed at went out of business, and i know car toys is expensive but honestly i did not know of any other places, ill go with the imagine comps, what do you think on a kicker sub? And amps that are that old, will they still work properly? Is a 1000/1 to much power for a cheap 100 to 200 sub? The deck i have is not a kennwood(my bad) its a excelon kvt 911dvd, is it possible thats part of problem? When the guy was installing it he said it missing the brain or something on those lines, im thinking of fixing all this myself, is there anything i should be worried about i have 06 evo ive heard there ecu wire that can be a pain but like i said i dont anything, i still have yet to take my door panel off successfully.

Old amps are still good. A big amp is good, just dont set the gain to high for whatever sub you get. You can set the amp with a dmm(search it). I dont know about that deck, but i dont see why it would be a problem.

I dont know what you mean about the ecu wire, i have a 09 lancer and i installed new door speakers without any problems. Your door panel is easy to remove, I think there is a you tube video check it out.

So i have done a little more research and i love the sound of jl but im thinking of doing a orien sub xtrpro124, any problems with this sub that you guys have heard of? Is it worth spending more and buying a jlw3 12? My bro is giving me his alpine type r speakers so ill have mids that arent blown for a change and im getting my ported box back tomorrow, i finally figured out how to take the door panels off so im thinking im ok with minor installation also a friend of friend is gonna help, so my last question would be if i blew a dub7 in 10 minutes could it have just been the gain on the amp or should i tear the whole thing apart and try to find something wrong?

If Stereo King West is still in business, they are great guys. I spent $1000s with them back in the day.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif All of the other good ones have gone out of business. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Car Toys tends to get the Best Buy type rejects....Maybe a step above, but I've never seen anything impressive come out of Car Toys.

The only way you blew that sub is by having your gains not set right and clipping the amp.... Otherwise the amp would've blown, so you might have your amp tested in case it was damaged.

So i went back to car toys to listen to some subs and speakers im gonna get at sonic, i explained my situation and he said my amp is putting out DC current when it should be AC and thats was more than likely the problem, and that i should just buy new amps. the guy at car toys said since i blew my sub so quick and my mids that more than likely that was the problem? i dont understand how that could happen ive never openend the amps before or messed with anything inside, but maybe the installer did i dont know.. any thoughts? also, between the w3 2 ohm, and w3 4ohm, which is better sq? and is the type r sub equal as far as sound quality level? im stuck between the two, also ive decided after listening to at car im thinking the focal IS speaker, for 199 at sonic, is there anything with better sound quality around that price point? is it worth to spend the extra $100 for the better focals? what more would i be getting?
