I need help with my speakers and amplifier. My boat has five speakers and only 2 of them work.?
The amp was prof installed. When I got the amp installed last year only two of the speakers worked. I just figured it was bad speakers. I have now installed new speakers- and still only two work. I have checked fuses. The wiring appears to be right. One weird thing is that when I turn the amp off- the three that dont work- seem to be getting signal from the head unit- not sure how thats possible if the amp should be powering them. I have checked and switched the fuses. I have messed with every setting on the head unit. Its a Kenwood Marine Radio- R Fosgate 300Prime Amp- and Polk Audio db651 speakers. I know I will prob have to take it back to installer- but just hate leaving boat there. Please HELP!! Thanks
UPDATE
Ok- tried switching inputs all around- the one thing that is for sure- the speakers will all work- but when both inputs are connected- only the 2 that were working come on and vice versa- so if the they are all hooked up it cancels out the others. So my question- is this an amp issue- or could it be that the speaker wires are not all right- the amp is very hard to get to- and all the wires had ends added- so cannot see if they are matching with out pulling out the amp and cutting all the tape off the wiring bundle. And yes also there is the converter box issue- I dont know about it or if it could cause the problem-I have one set of inputs from the head unit= and the other set comes from some little black box called a converter. The converter has a couple of wires going coming from the head unit main plug- then out as RCA into the other inputs on the amp. I was wondering could the converter be the problem- or wired wrong? On more odd thing is that I have 5 speakers and one of the channels on the amp have no wires connected to it. Just dont get it- paid alot of money to have this put in! Thanks for any help!
Dont know if I should drop the amp now since I know all of the speakers will work- but just not at the same time-
Please HELP???
