I need help with an amp. VS a new car warranty please.

No fuses blew either? Sounds like they have no idea what the issue was and just replaced everything and then blamed it on the amp.

The fact that they said it was 18k and out of warranty but decided to eat the cost means they know they have no idea what's going on and would not win a warranty battle as well.

Also, your future electrical issues will be covered since they replaced everything. Just smile and nod but don't sign anything taking responsibility or saying future work isn't covered

They were milking the hell out of you then. That's ******* stupid.
clearly you've never done professional work before. I charge over $80/hr for car audio installation, it takes days to do a set of door panels so it's easily over $1k for 1 set of door panels. now imagine how long it would take a body shop professional who charges $120/hr to shape a car and get the body lines to line up like stock as well as keeping all the interior panels operating and painting several coats to blend and finish. a good paint job is over $2k a perfect paint job is over $5k, anything less is a hack job or a hook up. why do you think that car shows like Overhaulin' and West Coast Customs don't ever show prices for their work b/c it's astronomical. Even on Pimp My Ride they never said anything about labor prices. all you guys think that b/c you can't afford something that it's just over priced or they are ripping you off but yet most of you want to work on cars and make millions, where do you think those payroll dollars come from?

Not milking me, insurance totaled it.

You would be amazed at how much brand new OEM parts cost. Headlights were 1k, taillights another 1k, wheels were 700/ea... and then labor at 100-125/hr adds up quickly. Obviously, if I went with used parts or sourced my own parts, I could do it much cheaper, but insurance (at least my insurance) doesn't price it out like that. They price it out so that it is restored to how it was before the crash, which was pretty close to new.

I have done professional work for woodworking, computer repair/build, lawn mowing, etc... I've always charged incredibly fair prices and still do **** good work. I understand people want to make money, but sometimes overcharging is overcharging.

What kind of headlights were they? That's stupid expensive. Then again, I guess factory OEM parts are more expensive.

Charging the prevailing rate is not overcharging. It is all the undercharging that goes on that makes people gawk at shops prices when their buddy can do a half *** job for half the price.

and OEM headlights direct from the manufacturer. OEM anything is expensive when it is bought new from the manufacturer.

A voltage spike would be due to the alternator, thus 100% covered by warranty with no questions asked.
But, Toyota is real ******* stingy about their warranty/defect ****. My uncle who works for them can attest to this. I work for one of their contractors right now for a summer job and I can definitely see it. My dad's 2010 Tundra has a Manufacturer recalled and defective parking brake, but because its out of warranty they can't replace a recalled/defective part? The **** does that mean Toyota?

Good luck though!
Recall has nothing to do with warranty. The recall is saying the part is defective and can cause a hazard. I just got a call for a recall on my 2004 Pathfinder and my Pathfinder has been out of warranty almost 5 years. You can have a 20 year old car and the dealer still has to honor repair on a recalled part. I would get it in writing and tell the dealer if this truck rolls back and kills a kid, the first letter I am showing is Toyota saying the wouldnt honor a recalled parking brake.

:(Thanks for the good information but it looks like the thread has been hijacked and no longer relevant to the amp issue.
there is no amp issue. seriously go see a lawyer and tell them what you are telling us and ask them about the Magnuson Moss Act. Scion will do a complete 180 when a lawyer calls them about this and you'll surely get an apology from the service manager too. Toyota doesn't have a good history of safety when it comes stuff like this.
