K, i got my system and it has been havin problems. If my air conditioner was on the subs would cut out if i turned the volume up higher then 17 outa 35. Thats always been a problem. But yesterday I was out drivin around bumpin as usual, wit the ac off and the volume up to about 24. Anyway, I park and go in the house, and like 30 minutes later I decide to go to a friends house. I try to turn the car on and it wont start. But the lights were workin and the radio would come on. So, I thought maybe the battery was just too low to start the car, So I boosted the battery. As soon as I boosted the lights got brighter, so I thought "ya, it must be the battery" SO, I drove around a bit with no radio on and it seemed to do ok. SO i went back in the house. THen about an hour later i wanted to go to the store, and i crunk it up. It started but then died out in like 3 seconds. So, I crunk it again and reved the engine, gave it a little gas and it worked fine. What does this sound like? My dad says he thinks my amp and speakers messed up my altenator. Does that sound reasonable? Also, how can i fix this problem? One of my friends said somethin about a capacitor or somethin like that...any help will be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info see below.

Mitsubishi Eclipse 93

Amp: Pioneer Mono Block 800w 7100M

Subs: two 12" Kicker "Livin' Loud" loaded box

Installed by: Circuit city.

Tell your dad your system may have messed your alt... but not directly, your alternator just couldn't keep up with the power demands. My guess is that you need a new alternator, or a new battery.

Wont it mess up what? Your alternator supplies a charge to the battery. If your alternator dies/isn't working properly, you could have low voltage problems, and the battery not being charged, guess though is the battery not being able to hold a charge since it will not start, or it could be a combination of the two.

understand this: nothing is going backwards from the subs/amps/stereo, etc, nothing is flowing back from the amps to the batt/alt thru the power wire.

Your dad probably thinks that an aftermarket system is bad for your car, but that's not true. An aftermarket HU and a couple of small amps would never hurt a healthy car. It's only when you start installing high performance, high power gear that you need to upgrade your car's electrical system.

Your alt is probably shot and has nothing to do with your stereo...it's just an old alt!

he claims to have just bought a new altenator and wiring harness for 400 bucks. I think ima have to take my system back (full refund for one month) to circuit city, get my $700 back and fix the altenator and just get some nice comp. speakers =\

I tried to crank again this morning, it wouldnt start....at all.

I would definitely return that for $700, then buy better audio stuff. Not that what you have is bad, but the price is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif .

Take your car to autozone, have them test the alt and battery, its free, and they will tell you exactly what the problem is.

ya i know i got jipped...how can i bring it to auto zone? it wont start...not tryin to sound like a smart ***.....not the tone..for the record...just a good question =\

5 spd? push start that hoe :)

If not - I'm sure if you try really really hard for a while, it'll start

It's a pain ni the ***, my buddys just took a crap on him //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
