Head Unit

Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X695

Front speakers

Polk-Audio-MM6501

Rear speakers

Polk-Audio-db651s

Front - Polk-Audio-MM6501

Rear - Polk Audio db651s

If I were to get a 4channel amp that does 100 watts for each channel, would my rear speakers end up being blown out since that is twice the RMS of the rear?

Also would it be just as good if I have the head unit power the rear speakers since they dont require much wattage and are mainly used to as fill in anyways?

So either 4channel rated at around 100watts per channel

or

2 channel amp at 100watts per channel for the front speakers and the head unit to power the rear speakers.

From those two choices can you please recommend me a quality amp?

Also I see 2 channel amps that say 150 RMS on 2 channels at 4ohms. Would I be able to use that on my front speakers or would it be too strong? Is there any way you can select how much wattage goes into each channel? Would I be able to lower it to 100 on the amp or what.

I am leaving out a sub for now but will buy one and a separate amp for it later.

you are not interested in having a subwoofer as part of your setup??

OP, please help us help you. What is your priceline? Also you mention you may add a sub and an additional amp later. This is going to cost you more than purchasing an amp capable of powering comps and sub(s).

After I buy the speakers and headunit I will have 400 dollars. I work part time just for some extra money to spend so After a couple weeks it will go up more.

I plan on getting a sub but not right now since I dont think 400 is enough for everything else.

So the rear speakers powered by headunit.

I would rather have the subwoofer be powered by the same amp but if it needs a separate amp that would be fine.

I would like to know which specifics amp you guys would recommend to get the job done.

I just want something decent for my car since right now the right side of my car speakers are very static like while the left are not as static. The car is a 1995 240sx se so the sound system isnt very new.

You can get an amp thats 100-150wrms at 2 ohms and just be extra careful to keep the gain down on the rears, most 4 ch amps have 2 gain controls for the fronts and backs.

why 100-150 at 2ohms and not 4?

also can you please post an amp that would work for me?

Would the Rockford-Fosgate-P500-4. be a good amp to power all 4 speakers?

RMS Power @ 4 ohms 60 watts x 4 channels

RMS Power @ 2 ohms 125 watts x 4 channels

Just make turn the gain down for the rear right? since it is a little bit too much power.

Don't turn the gain down, turn the HPF up. It's bass that'll kill your speaker, not high frequencies, as bass will heat up the coil and stress a woofer far more than high frequencies.

A while ago Boston Acoustics was blowing out some refurb gear and was selling their big 5ch for $200 shipped. That was a bargain. There's good stuff out there, just gotta know where to look and if you're going used, you need to know what to look for.

Also, don't get too caught up in this RMS nonsense. You can't hear a difference between 75w and 100w...so concentrate on getting a quality amp instead of a quantity amp.
