I nAudiophile needsrecommendations on picking out a system for his car

You asked the question about SVC/DVC (single/dual voice coil) and the difference in Ohms of subs and which one is better. I will try to make this a short as I can. You need to match your subs and amp. With this I mean if you get 2 DVC 4 Ohm subs you have many different combinations to run the Ohms at. But if you want the most power you would want to run them at a 1 Ohm load. With this you will have to find a 1 Ohm stable amp. If you only bought 1 DVC 4 Ohm sub you could run 8 or 2 Ohm load. Then you would be able to find a amp that is 2 Ohm stable. And so on and so ON. Bottom line is know what you are going to do with your system before you buy anything. If you want a 1 Ohm load system know what you need to buy and insure the amp is 1 Ohm stable.

As for sound that is based of the sub and enclosure. Different subs work good in sealed and some work good in ported. KNOW what type of box you are going to make or get prior to buying your subs. You need to know if your car can hold the larger ported box, or if you will have to use a sealed one because of room. There are so many different things you need to know before you buy anything else.

If you have the room and want the most bass go with a ported box. If you want sound quality and a tighter bass go with a sealed box.

I would Go with you buddy what other options do you have with him..also check out some of the online retailers..some of the guys on here have great reliable spots...

So far I like the HIFONICS idea.....The Subs are not "terrible" but I am sure most agree you can do "better" for the money

I heard that 2 coils is better than 1 if yoiu are looking for tighter cleaner sound - is this true?
No. That's not true.

But I think that amp will be hard to beat for the price unless you get lucky and get a used amp on ebay for cheaper. But IMO stick with that amp for that price. RF may not "be what they used to be", but the are still a quality product and better than anything else in the $150 new pricerange that you can get it for.

There goes Squeak again..dropping knowledge..Why are you not a MOD on this site..you are in the tech areas all the time answering questions intelligently..rarely do I see you in the "grabb ***" sections..your the only real Car Audio guy on here aren't you Squeak

I think this is what i may have actually decided on- tell me if there are any conflicts

1x 500wattRMS

http://www.ultimateelectronics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=38&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=1533&iSubCat=1600&iProductID=38&tabID=2

rated at 300 RMS but ppl say it needs and handles much more

the guy there had this sub and said it was awesome - he built his own box according to the subs specifications but he recommended that i definitely dynamat my trunk- he also told me to get a 500 watt amp so i think this package matches up good. I won't be paying those prices for them though

omg dude, i swear u can an amazing sub for 150- 200 and an amazing amp for 200.

Look for an re SExx for 150 and one jbl bp 1200.1 for 220

thats 370 busk man.

Are you kidding me?? That Alpine walks all over the JBL amp. Remember, he isn't paying the price you see on the site since his buddy works there. Plus in the future should he choose to upgrade from that Xplode headunit (hint hint //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) to an Alpine, he can control all the amp features from the HU.

Exactly...Fosgate is decent but like I said...since they got bought out it's not the same stuff...I fell for that trick when I saw thier stuff get affordable..this guy may "think" FOSGATE is still the best also?
Bought out? Not too sure where you're getting your info bud. RF was never bought out and makes their amps in the U.S. I'm not just defending RF because I run it. It's just I'm always seeing people bashing a company because they heard it was bought out (*cough* DEI *cough*), or if they moved their production to another country. So let's not base statements on hearsay...

so would that alpine amp be too much for the type r alpine

maybe i should downsize to the m500 or even m300 - how many watts rms would this sub need even though it's rated at 300 watts rms at 4 ohms
