I *heart* routers

Why would he make a box for me?
I've made every box i've ever owned. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

FYI, he lives 10 minutes from me, and is on my MECA team //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

No wonder he is louder, lol!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

boooooooo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If he would've stayed in S1 i would've been louder. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well, in SR1 at least.

I just bought me a router for x-mas present to myself. Not too sure how to use it or what bits I really need. I know I need one that rounds off edges for port and whatnot. What does the one you have in the pic do?

Also, with the plunge router, which bit do you reccomend doing the plunging? I saw a couple different spiral types. I don't know which ones to get?

You can use the same bit's with a plunge router. The plunge feature just gives you the option to control the depth of cut. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The bit in the pic is called a "flush bit". It's purpose is to make two pieces of wood line up straight. Say you cut the baffle a little too long and it hangs off one of sides of the box, you can use that bit to cut off the excess length and have it match perfectly.

For rounding off edges, you'll want a "roundover" bit. I'll be using mine later today. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

watch the bearing on those flush bits man...completely destroyed a few boxes from them freezing up.

1/4" spiral upcut bit works really well for cutting circles etc w/ the plunge base. Moe Lester actually picked up a cheap set of bits from harbor freight that has like 10 bits and they actually work pretty well.

Well, i got everything wired up and the box temporarily in there. Didn't get a chance to finish the box because it took me 3 F*CKING HOURS to find a suitable place to run the power wire through the firewall....ugh

Once i did get it all wired up, i set the gain about half-way, and to my surprise, it was REALLY loud!! In fact, my sister sat in the car and i immediately had to turn the amp down to 1/4. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Really surprised me. Hopefully i can finish the box up in a few days and get some finished install shots.

Took a few pics...

As you can tell, I still got a bunch of work left. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But the hard part is done with, thank god.

In case you are wondering what that little piece of wood on the box is for, my sister is a BIG dale earnhardt jr. fan, so i'm integrating the #8 logo on the box. Not quite sure how i'm going to do it yet though.

Hehe, I have all the tools a guy could ever need, and Uncle Sam payed for them all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Heck, he even paid for my wireless router, too!

/me is self-employed

For xmas I decided to put a little setup in my sister's car ('03 monte carlo SS).
So I got to bust out the tools again, which I haven't used in a while

Here's the stuff that'll be going in the car

Kicker 500.2, powering a 10" type-r //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Here's some box construction pics

And why I love routers

I suggest that everyone get a router + a 1" flush bit (below) and a 3/8" roundover

Another MUST HAVE, a carpenter's square

Unbelievably awesome tool to have.

I
I have the exact same router and the exact same T-Square //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif . That **** router has been in my garage for years, works excellent too!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

cmon tommy talk about choking off the trunk turn box so it sits sideways or try firing in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
It's MORE than loud enough for my sister. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I had to turn the amp gain way down because it was too much for her (for now). I had it set at ~1/2 and had to turn it down to 1/4-1/3

I must say though, it sounds really good and got much louder than i thought it would //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
