I have the worst luck EVER.

if he gives you money or a new one as a replacement. wang that ***** full tilt from day one no bass boost in a better box there is a reason your supposed to tune the L7's high and not at 32.

I'll never touch the bass boost knob agian. (that is, after I turn it OFF) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Now I feel like a total *** because I thought I was doing everything right.

I guess their is one good thing about being an idiot. You always have room for improvement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
i blew a sub in a day. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif had a so called friend build the fiberglass box and set the gains and when i got home i discovered he had the bass boost all the up and the gain maxed it was crazy loud but me not knowing i was playing a clipped signal to it the whole time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I retract my statements about this not being my fault. I've come to terms with this being caused by a clipped signal. Which was caused by me turning the bass boost knob too high. In my original statement I was refering to other situations I've had in the past also. I know an e-bay item can be just as good as any other. I just THOUGHT I was foing everything right. Now I know..bass boost = NO NO!

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Everyone that replied give themselves a pat on the back for teaching me something today. Yay.

*Goes back to being pissed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif *

I have yet to seperate the spider form the cone due to a clipped signal. does you amp have a subsonic filter? i'd be more willing to be you palyed too many songs below tuning and cause it to fail MECHANICALLY not thermally

Ahhhh but it could also be another killer as well. If you had the sub in a ported box and did not use a subsonic filter, the amp would have no control of the sub at and below the tuning point of the box, as such, it would flap around more than a wet fart. This is the #1 killer of subs in ported enclosures, no subsonic filter. #2 is boost which also leads to #3 which is thermal breach.

Blunt, yes the amp has a subsonic filter and it was turned on. Cone detached from spider = mechanical right?

RumbleNtheTrunk... Shhhhh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

yes thats mechanical. what was the subsonic set at or is it jsut switchable on and off?

i think your on point. It has to be overexcursion.

While it points to a mechanical breach, it might be something else as well. Now the other issue here is was this a new sub that you purchased or was it a refurb. If it was a refurb, what kind of glue was used to join the spider to the former / cone assembly? This I have seen many times over the years as well. If the glue was substandard and did not take heat any too well, it could also have been a breakdown in the glue that caused the failure. Lots of bases to cover but so far it points to a mechanical breach.
